Overview

Web Hosting for organisations in the United Kingdom.

The UK hosting market is crowded and cheap plans are everywhere. A cheap plan gives you space on a server; it does not keep WordPress updated, backed up or fast, and it rarely helps when something breaks at the wrong moment.

Our hosting is part of managed services. We pick the server, set it up for WordPress, move your site onto it and stay responsible for its health. You deal with one team for hosting, domain, email and the site itself.

In detail

Web Hosting in the United Kingdom, in detail.

01

Servers close to UK visitors

The closer the server is to your visitors, the quicker pages start to load. Cloudways lists London among its server locations, so for most UK sites we host in a London region where the chosen plan offers it. We add caching and a content delivery network for images and scripts, then measure load times from the UK after launch rather than assuming the setup works.

02

Where your data is held under UK GDPR

If your site stores enquiries, orders, applications or member records, its location matters. Hosting in the UK keeps things simple. If any data, including backups or a service the site relies on, is held outside the UK, UK GDPR treats that as a restricted transfer that must be covered by adequacy, safeguards or an exception. We document where your server and backups sit so your data protection lead can confirm it.

03

Your .co.uk domain in your name

We register or transfer your .co.uk or .uk domain in your organisation's name and manage its DNS. .uk domains move between registrars by changing the Nominet IPS tag rather than with a transfer code, and we coordinate that with your current provider so the site and email keep working throughout. If you leave us, the domain goes with you.

04

Hosting for stores and busy periods

WooCommerce sites need checkout and basket pages excluded from caching, reliable callbacks from Stripe or GoCardless, and enough headroom for sale days or campaign launches. We size the server for your traffic, review capacity with you before big events, and monitor the site so problems are spotted before customers notice. Stock alerts, order emails and payment webhooks are tested after any server change, because a store that looks fine can still fail behind the scenes.

05

What hosting costs

Managed services, including hosting, start from $2,000 per year. The price reflects traffic, whether you run a store, and how much support you need, and is set out in a written scope. Hosting is not sold on its own: every plan includes the care around the server, from updates and backups to monitoring. Larger stores or platforms with heavy traffic need bigger servers, and the scope explains how the plan scales if your traffic grows over the year.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Will our site be hosted in the UK?

Where the plan offers a London region, which Cloudways does, that is our usual choice for UK sites. We confirm the exact location during setup and record it, along with where backups are stored, so you can include it in your data protection records.

Can you move our site from our current UK host?

Yes. We copy the site to the new server, test it, then switch DNS at a quiet time so visitors and email are not disrupted. Migrations start from $1,000, or the move can be included when you join a managed services plan.

Do you provide email hosting too?

We set up business email on your domain with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Zoho, and configure SPF, DKIM and DMARC so messages reach inboxes. Email accounts are billed by the provider per user. We can also route website notifications through an authenticated service so they arrive.

What if our site gets a sudden traffic spike?

We monitor resources and can scale the server up on Cloudways when needed. If you know a campaign or launch is coming, tell us in advance and we will review capacity and caching beforehand. Scaling is reversed afterwards so you are not paying for unused capacity.

Who owns the hosting account?

How the hosting account is set up is agreed in the written scope. Your domain, site files and data remain yours whatever the arrangement. If you leave, we hand over a full backup and help move the site to your chosen host.
