Web applications, UK

Web application development for UK organisations

Not every bespoke system needs a bespoke software stack. We build portals, workflows and dashboards on WordPress for UK organisations, so you get custom software on a platform that is widely supported and easy to maintain.

Overview

Web Application Development for organisations in the United Kingdom.

UK organisations often ask for custom software when what they need is a well-built portal: a place for applicants to apply, members to manage their accounts, staff to process requests or managers to see reports. WordPress, with custom plugins, handles these well and keeps costs and maintenance lower than a ground-up build.

We have built a recruitment portal and HR dashboard for ASEP Logistics, a registration and session planning system for the Federal Ministry of Education boot camp with PLANE-FCDO, and ticketing with QR check-in for Technext Events. We bring that experience to UK projects.

In detail

Web Application Development in the United Kingdom, in detail.

01

What we build on WordPress

Typical web applications include application and recruitment portals, client or member areas, approval workflows, booking and scheduling systems, internal dashboards and reporting tools. We write custom plugins for the logic, use WordPress for user accounts, roles and content, and connect to your other systems through APIs. When a requirement really does not suit WordPress, we tell you during discovery. We document the data model so future changes are straightforward.

02

Data protection by design

Web applications usually hold more personal data than a website, so UK GDPR shapes the build from the start. We define who can see which records, log important actions, set retention for old data, and avoid sending sensitive details by email. If the application involves high-risk processing, your team may need a data protection impact assessment, and we provide the technical details to support it.

03

Integrations with UK systems

Applications rarely stand alone. We connect WordPress to CRMs, accounting software, HR systems, email platforms and payment providers such as Stripe and GoCardless, including Bacs Direct Debit for recurring fees. Integrations include error logging and alerts, so if a connected service is unavailable, your team knows and nothing is silently lost. Where an integration involves personal data, we record what moves between systems and why, which helps your team answer questions from auditors or the ICO if they arise.

04

Built in stages, with your team

We scope a first version that delivers the core workflow, release it to real users, then improve it based on how they work. Each stage has a written scope. Our hours overlap with the UK almost completely, so workshops, user testing sessions and release reviews happen in your working day, with staging sites for every change. Feedback from early users shapes the next stage, and features nobody uses are cut rather than kept for their own sake.

05

What a web application costs

Web applications are development projects, starting from $5,000 per project, and larger systems are scoped in stages. Hosting, maintenance and continuing development are covered by managed services from $2,000 per year. Quotes are in US dollars, with GBP open for discussion. The discovery stage can be priced on its own, giving you a clear specification and estimate before you commit to the full build. Larger applications often continue under a retainer after launch, as new needs appear.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is WordPress suitable for custom software?

For portals, workflows, dashboards and member systems, yes: it provides users, roles, security updates and an admin interface, and custom plugins add your logic. For heavy real-time processing or unusual architectures it may not be, and we will say so during discovery.

Who owns the application?

Ownership of the custom code is agreed in the written scope before work starts. Your data stays yours, and we document the system so another developer could maintain it. Credentials, documentation and code are handed over in full at the end of each engagement.

Can the application connect to our existing systems?

Usually, if they offer an API or a reliable export. We check documentation during discovery and confirm what each integration can do before it goes into the scope. If a system has no API, we discuss alternatives such as scheduled file exports.

How do you keep the application secure?

We limit access by role, log important actions, keep WordPress and plugins updated and review code before release. Hosting includes backups, monitoring and firewall rules, and we test restores. Penetration testing by a third party can be arranged on your side if you need it.

How long does a web application take?

It depends on the workflow and integrations. We aim to release a useful first version early and build from there, with timelines set out for each stage in writing. Each stage ends with a review meeting before the next one begins.
