Overview

A specialist WordPress team for Uganda.

WPFlat is a specialist WordPress agency and part of Digitalzooks. Since 2020 we have built websites, portals and learning platforms for organisations across Africa, the UK and the USA. We work with Ugandan organisations remotely, from our team in Nigeria. What we can show is work our team has delivered for comparable needs: a virtual learning environment for a school, an online school taking payments in several currencies, and a recruitment portal with an HR dashboard.

If you are comparing website design companies in Uganda, the useful question is not who is nearest to Kampala but who understands how your visitors pay, browse and trust a site. Most of your audience will arrive on a phone, pay for data by the bundle and expect to settle a bill with MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money. We plan for that from the first workshop.

In detail

Built for Uganda.

01

Built for how Ugandans pay online

Card payments alone leave a large share of Ugandan buyers without a way to check out. We connect WordPress and WooCommerce to gateways that collect Ugandan shillings through MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money, with cards alongside. Flutterwave sends a prompt to the customer's handset to approve, and Pesapal offers an official WooCommerce plugin covering both networks plus Visa and Mastercard. We set up the order statuses, confirmation emails and receipts so your team can reconcile payments without chasing screenshots on WhatsApp.

02

School websites and learning platforms

Searches for school websites in Uganda are common, and for good reason: parents want admissions information, term dates and fee guidance in one place they can open on a phone. Our team built the virtual learning environment for Alvina Schools in Nigeria, giving pupils and teachers lessons, assignments and resources behind a login. For Ugandan primary and secondary schools, colleges and training providers we can take the same approach: a clear public site for families, and where it is needed, a learning area with courses, quizzes, certificates and fee payment.

03

Data protection that stands up to the PDPO

Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 applies to anyone collecting personal data through a website, from a contact form to a pupil application. Organisations are expected to register with the Personal Data Protection Office, which sits under NITA-U, and to report breaches to it immediately. We cannot register on your behalf, but we build sites that make compliance practical: consent wording on forms, a clear privacy notice, limited data collection, secure storage, and a record of where submissions go.

04

Pages that respect the cost of data

Since 2021 Uganda has charged a 12% excise duty on internet data and airtime, and most people browse on prepaid bundles. A heavy homepage with autoplay video costs your visitors real money before they have read a word. We design mobile-first, compress images properly, avoid page builders that load scripts nobody needs, and test on mid-range Android phones over slower connections. The result is a site that opens quickly in Gulu as well as in Kampala.

05

Working with a team two hours behind you

Uganda runs on East Africa Time, UTC+3, which puts Kampala two hours ahead of our team in Lagos. In practice that gives a long shared working day, so we can hold morning calls at a comfortable hour for both sides and reply to requests the same day. Projects run through a shared board, written updates and recorded walkthroughs, so nobody needs to travel for a site to move forward.

06

What a project with us looks like

Every engagement starts with a short discovery call and a written scope covering pages, features, integrations and responsibilities. Strategy and design work starts from $1,500 per project and custom development from $5,000. We quote in US dollars, then agree milestones so you are never paying for work you have not seen. After launch you can keep us on for hosting, maintenance and security, or take the site in-house with documentation and training.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Are you based in Uganda?

No. Our team is based in Nigeria and works remotely with organisations across Africa, the UK and the USA. We do not have a Kampala office and will not invent one. Everything from discovery to launch runs through video calls, a shared project board and written updates, and East Africa Time is only two hours ahead of Lagos, so our working days overlap almost completely.

Can my website accept MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money?

Yes. We integrate payment gateways that collect Ugandan shillings through both networks, such as Flutterwave and Pesapal, and add card payments alongside. The customer enters their phone number, approves the payment on their handset and the order updates automatically. We test the full flow in sandbox mode before anything goes live.

Do you build school websites in Uganda?

We build school websites and learning platforms on WordPress, and our team delivered the virtual learning environment for Alvina Schools in Nigeria. For a Ugandan school that might mean a public site with admissions, term dates and news, plus optional areas for parents, pupils and online lessons. We scope it around what your staff can realistically keep updated.

Do I need to register with the Personal Data Protection Office?

If your organisation collects or processes personal data, the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 and its 2021 Regulations require registration with the PDPO. That is your organisation's responsibility and we recommend checking current requirements with the PDPO or a Ugandan lawyer. Our part is building a website that collects only what it needs, asks for consent clearly and stores submissions securely.

Can you invoice in Ugandan shillings?

Our prices and invoices are in US dollars, which keeps quotes stable for both sides. Where it helps your finance team, we can show an indicative shilling figure on the quote, and we agree milestones in writing so payments line up with delivered work. Your own website can, of course, sell to customers in UGX.

How does a project start?

You tell us what you need through our contact form or a call. We hold a discovery session, then send a written scope with deliverables, timeline and price. Once you approve it and the first milestone is paid, design begins. You review designs before development, and you review a staging site before launch.
