A WordPress web design company for Kenyan organisations

We design, build and look after WordPress websites for Kenyan businesses, schools and non-profits that need more than a brochure. Our team works from Nigeria, two hours behind Nairobi, and every project is scoped in writing before work starts.

Overview

A specialist WordPress team for Kenya.

Kenya's buyers pay with their phones, read on mobile data and expect a site to keep up. That changes what a good website is: checkout has to start with M-Pesa, forms have to respect the Data Protection Act, 2019, and pages have to load quickly on a handset in Nakuru as well as on office fibre in Westlands.

WPFlat is a specialist WordPress agency, part of Digitalzooks, founded in 2020. Our team works remotely from Nigeria with organisations across Africa, the UK and the USA. What we bring is a team that has built payment, learning, recruitment and ticketing platforms on WordPress, and a way of working that suits a remote engagement across East and West Africa.

In detail

Built for Kenya.

01

Why choose a WordPress specialist rather than a generalist

Many Kenyan web design firms build on whatever tool suits the designer. We work in one ecosystem and know it deeply: custom themes and plugins, WooCommerce, membership and learning platforms, integrations and migrations. Your team gets an editor it can use without calling us for every change, and you keep full ownership of the code, the content and the hosting account. If you later move to another agency, nothing is locked away. That independence matters more than any feature list when a site needs to run for five years or more.

02

Checkout built around M-Pesa

The Communications Authority of Kenya counted 53.4 million mobile money subscriptions in early 2026, and Safaricom's M-Pesa held about 89 per cent of them. So we plan payments around the phone prompt your customers already trust. Depending on your setup that means Paystack, which accepts cards, M-Pesa and Apple Pay for Kenyan businesses and settles in KES or USD, Flutterwave's M-Pesa charge in shillings, Pesapal, or a direct integration with Safaricom's Daraja API when you hold your own Till or Paybill.

03

Data protection that holds up to the ODPC

Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019 is enforced by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. If your website collects names, phone numbers or payment details, you are a data controller. We build consent into forms, keep the data a site stores to what you actually need, and document where it lives. The Act expects a controller to report a breach to the Data Commissioner within 72 hours, so we set up logging and security monitoring that lets you know quickly. Legal advice stays with your lawyer; the technical groundwork is ours.

04

Working across two time zones

Kenya runs on East Africa Time, UTC+3, all year. Lagos is on UTC+1, so we are two hours behind you. In practice our working day covers most of yours: a Nairobi team can raise a request after lunch and hear back the same afternoon. We run projects on shared boards, written briefs and recorded walkthroughs, so decisions are kept in writing and nobody depends on a single phone call.

05

Built for the way Kenyans browse

Most visits will come from phones, often on prepaid data bundles. We design mobile first, compress images properly, avoid heavy page builders, and test on mid-range Android handsets rather than only on a desktop. For organisations that serve schools or universities, we can plan around the .sc.ke and .ac.ke domains, whose registration needs supporting documents from KeNIC before the domain goes live, so launch dates allow for that step.

We have no Kenyan case study yet, so here is work our Nigeria team built that matches what Kenyan clients ask for most: multi-currency payments, high-volume ticketing and online learning.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Have you worked with clients in Kenya before?

Not yet, and we prefer to say so plainly. Our clients so far are in Nigeria, the UK and the USA. The platforms we have built, such as an online school taking payments in four currencies and an events system that sold and scanned over 10,000 tickets, solve the same problems Kenyan organisations bring to us. We are happy to walk you through them on a call.

Can my website take M-Pesa payments?

Yes. For most sites we connect M-Pesa through a gateway such as Paystack, Flutterwave or Pesapal, which handles the phone prompt and confirms payment back to WordPress. If you already have a Safaricom Till or Paybill and want payments to go straight to it, we can integrate with Safaricom's Daraja API instead. We help you choose based on fees, settlement and the reporting you need.

Do we have to register with the Data Commissioner?

Registration with the ODPC depends on your size and sector under the registration regulations, so check your position with a lawyer or the ODPC directly. Whatever the answer, the Data Protection Act still applies to the personal data your website collects. We make the site's side simple: clear consent, minimal storage, secure forms and a record of where data is held.

How do we work with a team based in Nigeria?

Remotely, with a clear process. You get a named project lead, a shared board for tasks and approvals, and scheduled calls during the hours our days overlap. We are two hours behind Nairobi. Feedback is given on staging links, so you can review designs and builds from anywhere, and every decision is written down.

What currency do you charge in?

Our prices are set in US dollars: Strategy and Design from $1,500 per project, Development from $5,000, Migrations from $1,000 and Managed Services from $2,000 per year. Every engagement is scoped and priced in writing. If your finance team needs a shilling reference figure for internal approval, tell us when we scope the work.

How does a project start?

With a short discovery call about your goals, audience and the systems the site must connect to, such as M-Pesa or your CRM. We then send a written scope with deliverables, timeline and price. Once you approve it, design begins. Nothing is built on assumptions, and you see progress on a staging site throughout.
