Ecommerce websites for UK sellers, built on WooCommerce

We build WooCommerce stores for UK businesses that want control of their shop rather than renting one. Checkout, VAT and returns are set up for how UK customers buy.

Overview

Ecommerce Websites for organisations in the United Kingdom.

WooCommerce runs on WordPress, so your shop, content and customer data sit on a site you own. There is no platform fee on each sale, and you can extend the store in almost any direction. The trade-off is that it needs to be built and configured carefully, which is where we come in.

Our team has built stores and payment-heavy platforms for clients across three continents, including the BFI School platform that takes payments in pounds, dollars, euros and naira. For UK sellers we focus on a checkout that feels familiar, prices that are right, and the consumer rules that come with selling online.

In detail

Ecommerce Websites in the United Kingdom, in detail.

01

Payment options UK shoppers expect

UK shoppers expect to pay by card and increasingly by wallet. Stripe covers cards, Apple Pay and Klarna for UK businesses, and can collect Bacs Direct Debit from UK bank accounts for subscriptions. GoCardless adds open banking through Instant Bank Pay and works with WooCommerce Subscriptions. PayPal is still a habit for many buyers. We set up the methods that suit your products and test each one before launch.

02

VAT set up correctly from day one

Once taxable turnover passes £90,000 over 12 months, a business must register for VAT, and that changes how a store shows prices and issues receipts. We configure WooCommerce tax settings so prices display consistently, VAT appears correctly on orders and invoices, and different rates can be applied where your products need them. Your accountant confirms the rules for your business; we make the store follow them.

03

Returns and cancellation built into the store

UK customers buying goods online can generally cancel within 14 days of receiving them, have another 14 days to send items back, and must be refunded within 14 days of the return, including standard delivery. We help you publish clear returns information, set up refund workflows in WooCommerce, and mark personalised or sealed items that fall outside the standard right, so staff handle requests consistently.

04

Delivery, stock and fulfilment

We configure delivery zones and rates for the UK mainland, Highlands and islands, Northern Ireland and overseas where you ship there, and connect stock to the way you fulfil orders. Where you use a courier or warehouse system, we integrate it through its API so order details flow without retyping. Order, dispatch and refund emails are rewritten in your brand voice, and stock levels can update automatically from a supplier feed or warehouse where one exists, so overselling is avoided.

05

Costs for a UK store

Ecommerce builds fall within development, starting from $5,000 per project, depending on catalogue size, payment methods, integrations and custom features. Ongoing costs include hosting, payment provider fees and plugin licences, which we list in the written scope. We also set out which paid WooCommerce extensions the store relies on, such as subscriptions or bookings, so renewals are expected rather than a surprise. If the catalogue is large, we price product import and data cleaning separately and visibly.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why WooCommerce instead of a hosted shop builder?

With WooCommerce you own the store and its data, pay no platform cut on sales, and can extend it with custom features. Hosted builders are quicker to start but harder to change later. We help you weigh this honestly during scoping, based on your catalogue and plans.

Which payment provider should a UK store use?

Most UK stores start with Stripe for cards and wallets, and add PayPal if customers expect it. Subscription and membership businesses often prefer GoCardless or Stripe's Bacs Direct Debit for recurring bank payments. Compare each provider's published fees for your volumes; we set up whichever you choose.

Can the store sell to customers outside the UK?

Yes. We can configure international delivery, extra currencies and region-specific tax settings. Selling abroad brings its own tax and customs questions, so your accountant should confirm the rules before we switch it on. Once confirmed, we set up the extra delivery zones and currency display so overseas buyers see sensible options.

Do marketing pixels need consent?

Yes. Advertising pixels and tracking used for marketing are not covered by the ICO's analytics exception and need the visitor's consent first. We connect your consent banner so these tools load only after a visitor agrees. Basic analytics may qualify for the statistical purposes exception if set up correctly, and we explain the difference.

Can you move our shop from another platform?

Yes. We move products, customers and order history where the source platform allows export, then redirect old product addresses so search rankings carry over. Migrations start from $1,000, or can be included in a new store build. We run test orders before switching.
