Overview

E-learning Platforms for organisations in the United Kingdom.

Hosted course platforms are quick to start with, but many UK providers outgrow them: they want their own branding, their own learner data, payment options that suit them and no per-learner fees. A WordPress learning platform gives you that control, provided it is built and maintained carefully.

We built the BFI School platform for BFI Insights LLC in the USA, with payments in naira, dollars, pounds and euros, certificates and an affiliate programme. We also built the Alvina Schools virtual learning environment. The same experience goes into UK learning platforms.

In detail

E-learning Platforms in the United Kingdom, in detail.

01

Courses, quizzes and certificates

We set up course structures that suit how you teach: self-paced modules, cohort courses with release dates, or blended programmes with live sessions. Quizzes and assignments track progress, and certificates are generated automatically when learners complete the requirements. Instructors and administrators get dashboards for enrolments and results, and learners get a clean area to pick up where they left off.

02

Selling courses in pounds

UK learners expect to pay by card or wallet, and organisations often want to pay by invoice or Direct Debit. We integrate Stripe for cards, Apple Pay and Bacs Direct Debit, GoCardless for recurring bank payments, and PayPal where it helps. Subscriptions, instalments, bulk seats for employers and discount codes can all be configured, with VAT shown correctly if you are registered.

03

Learner data under UK GDPR

A learning platform holds names, emails, progress and sometimes assessment results, which are personal data under UK GDPR. We limit what is collected, set sensible retention, restrict which staff can see learner records, and document where data is hosted. If your platform uses third-party video or meeting tools, we note where their data goes so you can cover it in your privacy notice.

04

Accessible learning

Learners use a wide range of devices and assistive technologies. We build course pages, quizzes and navigation to WCAG 2.2 AA, check that video can carry captions and that quizzes work by keyboard. If you are a public body or deliver publicly funded training, this also helps you meet the accessibility regulations that apply to you. We also make sure that timed quizzes can allow extra time for learners who need adjustments, where your policies require it.

05

What a learning platform costs

Learning platforms are development projects, starting from $5,000 per project depending on course types, payments and integrations. Hosting and support through managed services start from $2,000 per year. You receive a written scope first. Platforms with employer accounts, integrations with HR or CRM systems, or several course formats are scoped in stages, so you can launch with a core catalogue and add features once learners are using it. Course licences for third-party plugins are listed so renewals are known in advance.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why build on WordPress instead of a hosted course platform?

You own the platform and learner data, avoid per-learner fees and can shape the experience fully. Hosted platforms can suit small catalogues; we will say so if that is the better choice for you. We compare the options openly during discovery, including running costs over time.

Can employers buy places for their staff?

Yes. We can set up bulk seat purchases, group enrolment and manager reports, so a company buys places in one transaction and tracks its team's progress. Invoices can be issued automatically, and seats can be reassigned when an employee leaves before starting.

Can learners pay by Direct Debit?

Yes. Stripe and GoCardless both support Bacs Direct Debit from UK bank accounts, which suits subscriptions and instalment plans. First payments take several business days to confirm, so we design enrolment around that. Learners can cancel future payments, and we show them how.

Can you integrate live classes?

Yes. We connect scheduling and links for your video meeting tool, show sessions in the learner's calendar area and record attendance where the tool allows it. Recordings can be added to the course afterwards for learners who missed the live session, subject to your consent arrangements.

Can you move our courses from another platform?

Usually. We export course content, learners and progress where the old platform allows, rebuild in WordPress and test thoroughly before switching. Migrations start from $1,000. Learners are told in advance and given a simple way to log in on the new platform from the first day.
