A WordPress web design company for Tanzanian organisations

Overview

A specialist WordPress team for Tanzania.

A Tanzanian website has to work for people who pay with M-Pesa or Mixx by Yas, browse on mobile data and may prefer to read in Kiswahili. It also has to sit comfortably with the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022, which brought a new regulator and new paperwork for any organisation that collects personal details online.

WPFlat is a specialist WordPress agency, part of Digitalzooks, founded in 2020. We work with organisations across Africa, the UK and the USA from our base in Nigeria. We work with Tanzanian organisations remotely, from our team in Nigeria. What we can show is the platforms our team has built: payments in four currencies, ticketing at scale, learning environments and recruitment portals, all on WordPress.

In detail

Built for Tanzania.

01

One platform, known in depth

We do not switch tools from project to project. Everything we build runs on WordPress, which means custom themes and plugins written for your organisation, WooCommerce when you sell, and membership or learning features when you teach. Your staff get an editor they can use without calling a developer for every change. You own the code, the content and the hosting account from day one, so if you ever move to another agency or bring the work in house, nothing is held back.

02

Payments that start with the phone

TCRA counted 87.05 million mobile money accounts in June 2026, with M-Pesa at 40.6 per cent, Mixx by Yas at 32.0 per cent and Airtel Money at 16.4 per cent. A Tanzanian checkout that only takes cards will lose people. Paystack and Stripe do not serve Tanzania, so we work with local aggregators: Selcom for cards and QR, Pesapal and AzamPay for WooCommerce mobile money prompts, or Flutterwave's TZS mobile money charge through its API.

03

The Personal Data Protection Act in practice

Tanzania's Act came into force in 2023 and the Personal Data Protection Commission has been fully operational since April 2024. Every data controller and processor must register with the Commission, breaches must be reported promptly, and sending personal data abroad needs safeguards and the Commission's authorisation. For a website that means honest consent on forms and cookies, collecting only what you need, knowing where your server sits, and keeping records. We handle the technical side and leave legal judgement to your adviser.

04

Kiswahili, English or both

Swahili is the national language and English carries weight in universities, the higher courts and much of business. Many of the organisations we speak to want both. We set WordPress up so each page can exist in two languages with a clear switch, matching navigation and separate search listings, rather than a machine translation bolted on afterwards. Your team writes or approves the Kiswahili copy; we make sure the structure keeps both versions tidy and easy to update.

05

Working hours that overlap

Tanzania keeps East Africa Time, UTC+3, all year. Lagos runs on UTC+1, so our working day starts two hours after yours and overlaps almost all of it. A 10am call in Dar es Salaam is 8am for us. We agree a weekly check-in, a shared board for tasks and approvals, and a named contact for urgent issues, so the distance never becomes a reason for silence.

06

What it costs and how we price

Prices are quoted in US dollars, because that is how we scope and invoice every project. Strategy and Design starts from $1,500 per project, Development from $5,000 per project, Migrations from $1,000 per migration, and Managed Services from $2,000 per year. Your local running costs, such as a .tz or .co.tz domain and gateway fees, are paid in shillings to the providers directly. Every engagement is scoped in writing, so the figure you approve is the figure you pay.

Our work

Platforms we have built.

These three builds show the range a Tanzanian organisation is most likely to need: an online school with multi-currency payments, a ticketing platform that scanned over 10,000 entries, and a recruitment portal with an HR dashboard.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you have an office in Tanzania?

No. Our team is based in Nigeria and works remotely with clients across Africa, the UK and the USA. We run projects through video calls, a shared task board and written approvals. Because Tanzania is only two hours ahead of Lagos, our working days overlap almost completely, which makes remote collaboration straightforward.

Which payment options can you add for Tanzanian customers?

Usually a mix of mobile money and cards. Selcom handles card payments for online stores, Pesapal and AzamPay offer WooCommerce plugins that prompt the customer's phone for M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money and others, and Flutterwave can collect mobile money in shillings. We compare the options for your volumes and settlement needs before building.

Do we need to register with the Personal Data Protection Commission?

DLA Piper's guide to the Act says all data controllers and processors must register with the PDPC, and a certificate lasts five years. If your website collects names, phone numbers or payment details, you are very likely a data controller. We can prepare a plain description of what the site collects and where it is stored to support your application, but the legal decision sits with you and your adviser.

Can we pay in Tanzanian shillings?

We quote and invoice in US dollars. Domain names, local hosting extras and payment gateway fees are paid in shillings directly to those providers, so your ongoing running costs stay local. If paying a USD invoice from Tanzania needs particular paperwork, tell us at the start and we will provide what your bank requires.

Should we use .tz, .co.tz or .com?

It depends on your audience. Since 2022 businesses can register directly under .tz, while .co.tz remains the familiar choice for companies and .or.tz for organisations. If you sell mainly in Tanzania, a local domain signals that clearly. We can set up whichever you choose and redirect the others so nobody lands on a dead address.

How does a project with you begin?

With a short call about what the site needs to do, who uses it and what is already in place. We follow up with a written scope covering pages, features, payments, timeline and price. Once you approve it, we start with design, share progress weekly and launch only after you have signed off on the finished site.
