Accessibility (WCAG)

Platforms designed and built to WCAG accessibility guidelines, so they work for everyone who needs to use them. We also audit existing WordPress sites and fix what we find.

What it is

A platform that works for everyone who needs to use it.

Accessibility is not a feature added at the end of a project. It is decided in the structure, the colour, the type, the forms, and the code, and it is far easier to get right from the start than to fix later.

For new platforms, we design and build to WCAG guidelines from discovery onwards. For existing WordPress sites, we audit against WCAG, explain what we find in plain language, and fix the issues in the theme, the templates, the content, and the plugins.

Public institutions, nonprofits, and organisations that serve a wide range of people need platforms that are accessible. Every WPFlat platform is built to that standard.

When it fits

  • Public sector and institutions
  • Nonprofits serving the public
  • Organisations with accessibility commitments
  • Existing sites with known issues
What we do

Design, build, audit, and remediate.

  • 01

    Accessible design

Colour contrast, readable type, visible focus states, and layouts that hold up when text is enlarged.

  • 02

    Accessible build

Semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, labelled forms, and ARIA only where it is needed.

  • 03

    WCAG audit

Existing sites reviewed against WCAG with automated checks and manual testing.

  • 04

    Remediation

Issues fixed in the theme, the templates, and the plugins that cause them.

  • 05

    Content guidance

Headings, link text, alt text, and documents: guidance your editors can follow.

  • 06

    Keeping it accessible

Checks built into ongoing maintenance, so new content and updates do not undo the work.

Planning a new platform? Accessibility is part of every Strategy & Design project from discovery onwards.

How we work

How accessibility work runs.

The same order whether we are building new or fixing what exists.

  1. 01

    Review

We review the site, or the brief for a new build, against WCAG.

  2. 02

    Prioritise

Findings ranked by their impact on the people using the platform.

  3. 03

    Remediate

Fixes made on staging and reviewed before they go live.

  4. 04

    Verify

We retest and document what changed.

Accessibility runs through every phase of our process, not only the end.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Which WCAG level do you work to?

We work to the current WCAG guidelines and agree the target level with you during discovery, based on your sector and your obligations.

Can you make our existing site accessible without a rebuild?

Often, yes. Many issues can be fixed in the theme, the templates, and the content. Where the structure itself is the problem, we will tell you, and a redesign may be the better route.

Do you certify compliance?

We do not issue certificates. We design, build, and remediate to WCAG guidelines and document what we tested and changed, so you have a clear record.

Does accessibility limit the design?

No. Good contrast, clear structure, and readable type make a platform better for everyone who uses it.
