Overview

A specialist WordPress team for Malawi.

Choosing a web partner in Malawi is often a choice between a local freelancer with limited capacity and an overseas agency that has never thought about Airtel Money or kwacha pricing. We sit in a different place. WPFlat is a specialist WordPress team, part of Digitalzooks, founded in 2020 and based in Nigeria, and we work with organisations across Africa, the UK and the USA. We do one platform in depth, which is why our sites stay maintainable long after launch.

We work with Malawian organisations remotely, from our team in Nigeria. What we can show is the work our team has delivered elsewhere: an online school taking payments in four currencies, a ticketing platform that sold and scanned more than 10,000 tickets, and recruitment and learning portals. Each was planned around how its users actually pay and log in, which is the same thinking we bring to a site for Lilongwe or Blantyre.

In detail

Built for Malawi.

01

Payments that Malawian customers can complete

Stripe does not support businesses in Malawi, so a checkout copied from a UK or US template will simply not work. We build on PayChangu, a Malawian provider licensed by the Reserve Bank of Malawi in 2024, which brings Airtel Money, TNM Mpamba, cards and instant bank transfer into one integration and offers plugins for WooCommerce and GiveWP. Where your buyers include people paying from abroad, we can add an international option alongside it, so both groups reach a confirmed order.

02

Ready for the Data Protection Act 2024

Malawi's Data Protection Act 2024 names MACRA as the Data Protection Authority. If your organisation holds personal information on more than 10,000 people resident in Malawi, it counts as a controller of significant importance and must register with MACRA. Membership bodies, schools and retailers with a growing customer list can reach that figure quickly. We build forms that collect only what you need, add a clear privacy notice and consent wording, and keep a record of where data flows, so your registration and any audit start from an accurate picture.

03

Designed for phones and careful data use

DataReportal counted about 3.95 million internet users in Malawi at the start of 2025, against 13.2 million mobile connections. For most of your visitors the website is a phone screen on a data bundle. We keep pages light, compress images properly, avoid autoplay video and put the call, enquiry or payment button where a thumb can reach it. The result is a site that respects the visitor's data and still looks considered on a large office monitor.

04

One hour apart, easy to reach

Malawi runs on Central Africa Time, one hour ahead of Lagos, so our working day overlaps almost completely with yours. Calls, reviews and launch windows happen in normal office hours on both sides, without anyone staying late. We agree a regular check-in rhythm at the start, share progress on a staging site you can open from any phone, and keep decisions in writing so nothing depends on memory.

05

Priced in dollars, explained in kwacha

The kwacha was devalued by 25% in 2022 and by 44% in 2023, which makes long kwacha quotes risky for both sides. Our projects are scoped and priced in USD, which keeps the figure stable from proposal to final invoice. If your board or finance team approves budgets in kwacha, we include an indicative MWK equivalent in the proposal for your internal paperwork, clearly marked as a guide rather than a fixed rate.

06

What we build

Our work for Malawian organisations covers the full WordPress range: company and NGO websites, redesigns, WooCommerce shops, school sites with admissions forms, e-learning platforms, membership portals and staff dashboards. We also handle hosting through our partners Cloudways and Hostinger, maintenance and security, business email on your .mw or .com domain, and technical SEO. Every engagement is scoped in writing first, so you know exactly what is included before any work begins.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you have an office in Malawi?

No. Our team is based in Nigeria and works with Malawian clients remotely. In practice that means video calls during your normal office hours, a shared staging site you can review on any device, and written updates at agreed points. Because Malawi is only one hour ahead of Lagos, we are online at the same time as your staff for almost the whole working day.

Can our website accept Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba?

Yes. We integrate PayChangu, a Malawian payment provider that supports Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba direct charges as well as cards and bank transfer. You open a merchant account with PayChangu in your organisation's name, and we connect it to your WooCommerce shop, donation form or booking page so payments are confirmed automatically on your site.

Which currency will you invoice us in?

We quote and invoice in US dollars, because the kwacha has moved sharply in recent years and a dollar figure stays fixed for the life of the project. If your approvals happen in kwacha, the proposal can show an indicative MWK equivalent for internal use. The binding figure is always the USD amount in the signed scope.

Do we need to register with MACRA because of our website?

Possibly. Under the Data Protection Act 2024, an organisation processing personal information about more than 10,000 people resident in Malawi, or information significant to the economy, society or security, must register with MACRA. Your website may be one of several places you collect data. We can map what the site gathers so your adviser can decide; we do not give legal advice ourselves.

Should we use a .mw domain or a .com?

A .co.mw, .com.mw or .org.mw address tells visitors you are a Malawian organisation, while a .com can suit groups that work across several countries. Many organisations hold both and point one at the other. Whichever you choose, we make sure the domain is registered in your organisation's name, not ours, and that renewals are on record.

How does a project start?

It starts with a short call about your goals, audience and deadlines. We then send a written scope covering pages, features, payments, content responsibilities and a fixed USD price. Once you approve it and pay the agreed deposit, we begin discovery and design. You see progress on a staging site throughout, and nothing goes live until you sign it off.
