Website cost, Sweden

How much does a website cost in Sweden?

The honest answer is that it depends on what the site has to do, and this guide explains exactly what moves the number. It also shows where our starting prices sit, which running costs to budget for, and how to get a quote you can rely on.

Overview

The short answer, and the honest one.

Swedish organisations pay for websites in very different ways: a fixed price from a local studio, monthly fees for a website builder, hourly billing from a freelancer, or a scoped project from an agency abroad. The figures vary so widely that comparing headline prices tells you little. What matters is what is included, who owns the result, and what you will pay each year once it is live.

We will not quote invented market averages here. Instead we set out the factors that genuinely change the cost of a Swedish website, describe the main kinds of site, and give you our own starting prices in US dollars so you can see where a project with us begins.

In detail

What drives the cost.

01

What drives the price

Four things shape almost every quote. First, the number of distinct page designs, not the number of pages: twenty articles share one template, while a home page, service pages and a booking flow each need their own. Second, functionality such as payments, member areas, bookings or integrations with your CRM or accounting system. Third, content: whether copy, photos and Swedish translations are ready or still to be produced. Fourth, compliance work, such as accessibility testing, cookie consent and data handling, which in Sweden is no longer optional for many sites.

02

A brochure or company site

A company presentation site introduces who you are, what you offer and how to get in touch. It typically involves a handful of templates, a contact form, a news or blog section and basic search optimisation. With us this sits under Strategy and Design, from $1,500 per project, rising with the number of templates, languages and custom features. If your audience spans Sweden and other markets, a bilingual Swedish and English structure adds planning and testing, though the content itself comes from you or your translator.

03

An online shop

An e-commerce site adds products, stock, shipping rules, VAT at 25%, 12% or 6% depending on what you sell, and the payment methods Swedish customers expect. Setting up Swish, Klarna and cards through Stripe, plus clear terms for the 14-day right of withdrawal, takes real development time. Since June 2025 the Accessibility Act also covers e-commerce services. A WooCommerce store usually falls under Development, from $5,000 per project, with the final figure driven by catalogue size and integrations.

04

Platforms, portals and learning sites

Member portals, recruitment systems, course platforms and booking tools are software projects running on WordPress. They need user roles, workflows, dashboards and often integrations with existing systems, along with careful thought about personal data under the GDPR. These also start from $5,000 under Development, and larger builds are scoped in phases so you can launch the core early. If your platform will hold pupil or member records, plan time for a data review with your own adviser.

05

Running costs to budget for

A website keeps costing after launch. Budget for your .se domain renewal through an accredited registrar, and possibly a second spelling if your name contains å, ä or ö. Hosting is an annual cost that scales with traffic and storage. Shops pay transaction fees per payment to Stripe, Klarna or their bank for Swish Handel, at rates set by those providers. Business email on Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Zoho is billed per user. Finally, plugins, security updates and backups need someone responsible.

06

How to get an accurate quote

The quickest route to a firm price is a short brief: what the site must do, who uses it, which systems it connects to, which languages it needs and when you need it live. From that we hold a discovery call and send a written scope listing deliverables, milestones and the price in USD, with a kronor reference figure on request. Nothing is added later without your written approval, and the scope also states what is excluded, so you can compare it fairly against other offers.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why do website prices in Sweden vary so much?

Because quotes describe very different things. A builder subscription, a freelancer's hourly rate and an agency's scoped project include different work, ownership terms and support. Compare what each offer includes: templates, features, accessibility, payments, content and aftercare. A cheaper headline price often leaves out work you will need to pay for later.

Can you quote in Swedish kronor?

Our quotes and invoices are in US dollars, which keeps pricing consistent across the countries we work in. If your finance team needs a kronor figure for budgeting or approval, we add a reference amount on request. Payments follow the milestones in your written scope, so you never pay for the whole project upfront.

Is VAT included in your prices?

Our prices are quoted in US dollars as stated in the scope. How VAT applies to services bought by a Swedish business from a supplier outside the EU is a question for your accountant, who can confirm the treatment for your organisation. Your own website's prices to Swedish customers will of course show Swedish VAT.

What does a website cost per year once it is live?

Expect a domain renewal, hosting, email licences per user, payment fees if you sell online, and maintenance. Our Managed Services start from $2,000 per year and can cover hosting through our partners, updates, security and backups. Payment fees are set by Stripe, Klarna or your bank and depend on volume.

Do we own the website when it is finished?

Yes. Once the project is paid, the code is yours, your domain is registered in your organisation's name from the start, and you receive admin access and documentation. You are free to host the site anywhere and to work with any developer in future, including your own team.

How long does a quote take?

After a discovery call, we usually need only a short time to prepare a written scope, depending on how complex the project is. Simple company sites are quick to scope. Platforms and shops with integrations may need a second conversation so the scope reflects how your organisation really works.
