Overview

Ecommerce Websites for organisations in Nigeria.

Selling online in Nigeria has its own habits. Plenty of customers would rather transfer from their banking app than type card details, some want to pay by USSD, and many will message you before they buy. A store that ignores those habits loses orders at the last step, no matter how good the products look.

WooCommerce gives you a store you fully own, with no platform taking a percentage of every sale beyond your payment gateway's fees. We set it up around your products, your delivery reality and your payment provider, then train your team to run it day to day.

In detail

Ecommerce Websites in Nigeria, in detail.

01

A checkout with the right payment channels

Paystack supports Visa, Mastercard and Verve cards, pay-by-transfer, USSD and Apple Pay for Nigerian merchants, and Flutterwave lists card, USSD, bank transfer, NQR and OPay among its naira options. We choose the gateway with you, switch on the channels your customers use and connect them to WooCommerce so every successful payment marks the order paid automatically. No more screenshots of transfer receipts sent to your sales line.

02

Understanding gateway fees

Gateway charges come out of every sale, so they belong in your pricing from day one. Paystack, for example, charges local payments as a percentage plus a flat fee with a cap, waives the flat fee on small amounts and charges international cards at a higher rate. We walk you through the current published fees for your chosen gateway so your margins and any minimum order values are set with the real numbers in front of you.

03

Delivery and fulfilment that fit Nigeria

Delivery inside one city is very different from shipping between states. We set up shipping zones and rates that match how you actually fulfil orders, whether that is your own dispatch riders, a logistics partner or pickup from a store. Customers see delivery costs before they pay, which reduces abandoned carts and awkward follow-up calls after an order is placed.

04

Product pages for phones and data bundles

Your shoppers are almost certainly browsing on phones. We compress product images, avoid heavy sliders, keep category pages quick to filter and make the add-to-cart button easy to reach with a thumb. Clear naira prices, stock status and delivery information sit near the top of each product, because shoppers on mobile data rarely scroll through a long page to find them.

05

Customer data and the NDPA

A store collects names, phone numbers and addresses on every order, so it falls squarely under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. We keep checkout fields to what fulfilment needs, separate marketing consent from purchase consent, link your privacy notice at checkout and lock down admin accounts. Card data is handled by the gateway, never stored on your site. Staff accounts get only the permissions their role needs.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Which payment gateway is better for a Nigerian store, Paystack or Flutterwave?

Both are established in Nigeria and both offer cards, bank transfer and USSD. The right choice depends on the channels your customers prefer, settlement needs, current fees and whether you also sell abroad. We compare them for your situation during discovery and can set up both if you want a fallback.

Can customers pay on delivery?

WooCommerce supports cash or transfer on delivery as an option, and some Nigerian sellers still offer it. It increases the risk of failed deliveries, so many businesses limit it to certain areas or order values. We can configure those rules so you keep control.

Can I sell to customers outside Nigeria too?

Yes. Gateways such as Paystack accept international cards, and WooCommerce can show prices in more than one currency. We built the BFI School platform to take payment in NGN, USD, GBP and EUR. International shipping needs its own rules, which we set up with you.

Will my store work well on cheap phones and slow networks?

That is a design goal from the start. We test on mid-range Android phones, keep page weight low, lazy-load images and avoid heavy scripts. Hosting through Cloudways or Hostinger is chosen with your audience's location in mind. We also keep checkout short, because every extra step loses some buyers on a slow connection.

How much does an ecommerce website cost in Nigeria with you?

A WooCommerce store is a development project, starting from $5,000. The price depends on product count, payment and shipping complexity, integrations and design. You get a fixed written scope before we start, and our cost guide explains the running costs to budget for.

Who updates products after launch?

Your team does, and we train them to. Adding products, changing prices and processing orders are everyday tasks in WooCommerce. If you prefer, Managed Services can cover updates, security and backups so your staff focus on selling. We also leave your team a short written guide for the tasks they do most often.
