Website redesign, Zimbabwe

A website redesign for Zimbabwe that keeps your hard-won traffic

Redesigning should make your website faster, clearer and easier to manage without throwing away the search visibility and links you already have. We audit first, keep your .co.zw domain and rebuild on WordPress with every old address accounted for.

Overview

Website Redesign for organisations in Zimbabwe.

Many Zimbabwean websites were built for desktop screens and a single currency. Since then, mobile internet has become the dominant way people get online, ZiG circulates alongside the US dollar, and data protection rules now require a POTRAZ licence. A redesign is a chance to catch up on all of it in one project.

Redesign falls under our Strategy & Design service, from $1,500 per project. Where the new site needs development, such as a Paynow checkout or a member area, we price that separately in the written scope.

In detail

Website Redesign in Zimbabwe, in detail.

01

Starting with what the old site does well

Before sketching anything new, we study the current site: which pages draw visitors from Google, which enquiries come through which forms, which downloads people still use. Some of your older pages may be quietly bringing in business. The audit report protects them and identifies what to fix, so the redesign improves results rather than starting from zero. It also lists the plugins and integrations, such as Paynow, that must carry across.

02

Redirects for every old address

A new site usually changes URLs, and each changed URL needs a permanent redirect to its new home, otherwise search engines treat the page as gone. We crawl the old site, build a redirect map for your approval, test it on staging, and check search console data after launch to catch any missed addresses quickly. Internal links are updated too, so visitors do not bounce through redirects unnecessarily.

03

Lighter pages for mobile visitors

POTRAZ data shows mobile internet as by far the largest way Zimbabweans connect, and older designs often carry heavy sliders, large images and unused scripts. We design mobile layouts first, use compressed images, cut third-party scripts that do not earn their place and test on mid-range phones. The result usually feels quicker to visitors as well as looking newer, and it costs them less data per visit.

04

Prices and currency, reconsidered

If your old site lists prices, it probably shows one currency. With USD and ZiG both in circulation, a redesign is the moment to decide how prices appear: one currency, both side by side, or a selector. We agree the approach with you and make sure it matches what your payment gateway, typically Paynow, actually charges and settles, so the price a customer sees is the price they pay.

05

Keeping the .co.zw domain safe during the switch

ZISPA vets .co.zw registrations and expects the real owner to be listed, so a redesign is a good time to check that your domain is held in your organisation's name rather than a former web designer's. We confirm the registration details, document DNS records, protect email during the move and switch the site over at an agreed time, outside your busiest trading hours.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do we know if we need a redesign or just fixes?

If the problems are a few broken features or slow pages, maintenance and targeted fixes may be enough. If staff cannot update the site, it fails on phones or the structure no longer matches your services, a redesign usually pays off. Our audit tells you which applies before you commit.

Will our rankings drop?

A short period of movement is common after any relaunch. Lasting drops normally come from missing redirects or deleted content, which our process is built to avoid. We map and test redirects before launch and watch search data afterwards, fixing anything that slipped through.

Can you keep our current hosting?

Often, yes, if it runs a current PHP version and has reliable backups. If it does not, we recommend a move as part of the project and explain why in writing. The redesign and any hosting change are planned together so visitors see one clean switch.

Our previous designer registered our domain. What now?

ZISPA expects the actual owner to be listed on a .co.zw registration. If your domain sits in someone else's name, contact them and the registrar to transfer it to your organisation. We help with the technical side and keep your site and email running while it is resolved.

Will the new site take EcoCash?

It can, through Paynow, which supports EcoCash, Telecash, ZimSwitch and cards. Adding payments is development work, so it is scoped and priced alongside the redesign. If you already accept Paynow, we carry the integration across and test it again on the new site.

How involved will our team be?

We need someone to approve the design, review content and test the staging site before launch. Most of the work sits with us, but your input at those points keeps the project on track. We schedule reviews in Harare working hours, which overlap almost fully with ours.
