Web applications, Zimbabwe

Web applications that replace paperwork for Zimbabwean organisations

When a process depends on paper forms, email chains and someone's spreadsheet, it is slow and fragile. We build custom web applications on WordPress, such as portals, approval workflows and dashboards, starting from $5,000 with a written scope.

Currency
Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), used alongside the US dollar (USD), which remains legal tender under the multi-currency system extended to 31 December 2030 (ZWG)
Payments
Paynow, EcoCash, ZimSwitch
Data protection
Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07] (Act No. 5 of 2021), with the Cyber and Data Protection (Licensing of Data Controllers and Appointment of Data Protection Officers) Regulations, SI 155 of 2024
Time zone

Overview

Web Application Development for organisations in Zimbabwe.

Typical examples in Zimbabwe include a bursary application portal, a dealer or agent network that submits orders and claims, a professional body handling renewals and training records, or a logistics firm tracking job assignments. Each one has users with different permissions, steps that need approval and records that management depends on.

We build on WordPress because it provides secure logins, user roles and an admin area out of the box. That lets us spend your budget on the parts that are specific to you, and leaves you with a system many developers can support.

In detail

Web Application Development in Zimbabwe, in detail.

01

Requirements written before code

We start with workshops involving the people who will use the system daily. We map each step, the information it needs, who approves it and what happens on rejection. The output is a written specification with screen sketches and user roles. You approve it before development begins, and it becomes the reference point for testing, so there is no debate later about what was agreed.

02

Payments inside the process

Applications, renewals and registrations often carry a fee. Paynow lets the payment step sit inside the workflow, with EcoCash, Telecash, ZimSwitch or card, and its confirmation updates the record automatically. We settle the USD and ZiG question at the design stage, because reports and reconciliations need to know which currency each payment used. Failed or abandoned payments are flagged for follow-up rather than silently ignored.

03

Working on weak connections

Users in the field may be on unstable mobile connections. We design forms that save drafts as users go, split long submissions into steps and upload documents one at a time with clear progress, so a dropped signal does not wipe out half an hour of work. Screens are tested on mid-range Android phones as well as office laptops, and on slow connections as well as fast ones.

04

Data governance under the Cyber and Data Protection Act

Custom systems often hold sensitive records: national ID numbers, salaries, health or financial details. Your organisation needs a POTRAZ data controller licence and a data protection officer, and the system should make their job easier. We build role-based access, an audit log of changes, data export for requests from individuals and a clear statement of where the data is hosted.

05

Handover, training and support

At launch your team receives administrator training, user guides for each role and technical documentation. The code and database sit in your accounts. Ongoing hosting, updates and fixes are available through Managed Services from $2,000 per year, delivered by the developers who built the system, working one hour behind Harare. That continuity means fixes start from knowledge rather than guesswork.

Platforms we have built.

Our recruitment portal and HR dashboard for ASEP Logistics, the Federal Ministry of Education boot camp registration and Technext's ticketing with QR check-in are examples of the custom applications our team has built and supported.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is WordPress suitable for a business application?

For portals, workflows and dashboards, yes. WordPress has a mature user and security model, and it lets us focus effort on your specific logic. If your requirements would be better served by another platform, for example very high transaction volumes, we will say so during scoping rather than after.

Can the system handle both USD and ZiG?

Yes. We record the currency of every transaction and keep totals separate in reports, so finance teams can reconcile each against Paynow settlements. How prices are set and converted is your business decision; we build the system to follow the rules you choose.

How long does a custom web application take?

It depends on the number of user roles, steps and integrations. After the specification is approved, we give you a schedule with stages and demo dates in the written scope. A phased approach often gets the core system into use sooner.

Can it connect to our accounting or HR software?

Often, yes, if the software offers an API or import format. We check the documentation during scoping and confirm in writing what data will move between systems and how often. Where there is no API, a scheduled export and import can be a workable alternative.

Where will our data be hosted?

We host on managed cloud servers through our partners Cloudways or Hostinger, or on infrastructure you choose. Your POTRAZ licence application states whether data is stored in Zimbabwe or abroad, so we agree the location early and document it for your data protection officer.

What if we need changes after launch?

Processes evolve, and the system should too. Small changes can be handled under Managed Services; larger features are scoped and priced as a new phase. Because the code is documented and owned by you, changes can be made safely without unpicking earlier work.
