School websites, Zimbabwe

School websites in Zimbabwe built around parents, pupils and the bursar

Parents judge a school partly by its website, and they rely on it for term dates, fees and urgent notices. We build WordPress websites for Zimbabwean schools that are quick on phones, easy for staff to update and careful with pupil data.

Overview

School Websites for organisations in Zimbabwe.

Look up schools in Harare and you quickly see the range: some have clear, current websites, others a single page that has not changed for years, and some rely on social media alone. A good school website does not have to be elaborate. It needs accurate information, a sensible structure and someone at the school who can keep it up to date.

Our education experience includes the Alvina Schools virtual learning environment and the BFI School platform. We plan your site from Zimbabwean requirements and show you that comparable work.

In detail

School Websites in Zimbabwe, in detail.

01

Information parents look for first

Term dates, fees, uniform lists, transport, contact details and the admissions process. These pages should be one tap from the home page and written plainly. We structure the site around those questions, then add the pages that tell your story: history, ethos, the academic results you choose to publish, sport, culture and boarding where relevant. Each page has a named owner on your staff, so information stays current.

02

Fee payments through Paynow

Many Zimbabwean parents would rather pay school fees from their phone than queue at a bank. Through Paynow, a school website can accept EcoCash, Telecash, ZimSwitch and Visa or Mastercard. We set up fee items, decide with the bursar whether fees display in US dollars, ZiG or both, and send parents an emailed receipt while the payment is recorded for the accounts office.

03

Admissions and enquiries

An online form lets families start an application from anywhere, including parents working abroad who are applying for a child at home. We collect the information your admissions office needs, accept supporting documents and give staff a dashboard to track each application. Families receive confirmation emails at each stage, so the office takes fewer follow-up calls and nothing gets lost in a paper file.

04

Protecting pupil data under the Cyber and Data Protection Act

A school that collects information about pupils and parents through its website is a data controller, and the 2024 regulations require a POTRAZ licence and a data protection officer. Children's data deserves particular caution. We restrict access to applications, avoid publishing identifiable photos of pupils without consent, set retention periods for form entries and document exactly what the website stores for your licence.

05

Registering the school's domain properly

ZISPA requires schools, clubs and churches to register their .zw names in the organisation's own name, not a staff member's. That rule protects the school when people move on. We check your registration, set up school email on the same domain and make sure the school's administration holds the registrar and hosting logins, with a written record of renewal dates so the domain never lapses during a school holiday.

Our work on the Alvina Schools learning environment and the BFI School platform shows how we build for pupils, parents and fee payments, which sit at the core of most school websites.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What does a school website cost?

A school website without payments falls under Strategy & Design, from $1,500 per project. Online fee payments, admissions dashboards or a learning platform add development, which starts from $5,000. We put every feature in a written scope so the governing body can see what it is approving.

Can parents pay fees by EcoCash?

Yes, through Paynow. The school opens a Paynow merchant account in its own name and we connect it to the website. Parents can then pay with EcoCash, Telecash, ZimSwitch or a card, and the bursar sees each payment recorded with the pupil's reference.

Does our school need a POTRAZ licence?

If the school decides what personal data to collect and how to use it, which includes admissions and fee records, the regulations expect a data controller licence and a data protection officer. We provide a clear account of what the website collects. Confirm the legal detail with POTRAZ or your adviser.

Can teachers post updates without breaking the site?

Yes. We give teachers a limited role that lets them publish news and class updates using fixed templates, without access to design settings, applications or payments. A short training session and a written guide are part of handover, so new staff can learn quickly.

Will the site work for parents on mobile data?

Yes. We design for smartphones on mobile data, which is how most visitors will arrive. Pages are kept light and the important information sits near the top. For families with very basic phones, we recommend keeping SMS notices running alongside the website.

Can the website hold past exam results?

It can publish whatever results the school chooses to share, such as overall pass rates. Individual pupils' results are personal data and should not be posted publicly. If you want families to see individual reports, that belongs in a secure parent portal with logins, which we can scope separately.
