Overview

Ecommerce Websites for organisations in Zimbabwe.

An online shop in Zimbabwe lives or dies at checkout. Shoppers expect to pay with EcoCash or a local card, they want to know whether a price is in US dollars or ZiG, and they often finish the purchase on a phone with limited data.

We plan those details before we design a single product page, then build the store in WooCommerce so your team can manage products, stock and orders without a developer.

In detail

Ecommerce Websites in Zimbabwe, in detail.

01

Paynow as the checkout backbone

Stripe does not open accounts for Zimbabwean businesses, so local gateways carry the load. Paynow is the established option: its merchant service lists EcoCash, Telecash, ZimSwitch, Visa and Mastercard, and it publishes an official WooCommerce plugin. You register the merchant account in your company's name, and we configure the plugin, test each payment method on real devices and check how WooCommerce order statuses update when a payment is confirmed or abandoned.

02

USD, ZiG and the price your customer sees

The US dollar remains legal tender alongside the ZiG, and the government has extended the multi-currency arrangement to the end of 2030. For a store, that raises concrete questions: which currency is the base, whether a second is displayed, and which currency the gateway charges. Community reports suggest gateway plugins can be strict about the store currency, so we test your chosen setup end to end before launch rather than discovering problems with live orders.

03

Mobile money checkout behaviour

With EcoCash, the customer usually approves the payment on their handset rather than typing card details. That changes the flow: the page has to wait gracefully, explain what to do if the prompt does not arrive, and confirm the order clearly afterwards. We design those states, keep the checkout to as few fields as possible, and make sure a failed or timed-out payment leaves the cart intact so the customer can retry.

04

Customer data and your POTRAZ licence

Every order collects names, phone numbers and addresses. Under the Cyber and Data Protection Act and SI 155 of 2024, a business processing that data generally needs a data controller licence from POTRAZ and a data protection officer. We limit checkout fields to what fulfilment needs, add clear privacy wording, and list where order data is stored so your licence details are accurate.

05

Delivery, collection and stock

Many Zimbabwean shops combine delivery within a city with collection from a branch. We set up WooCommerce shipping zones, collection points and order notifications to match how you fulfil, and connect stock to your process where an integration is feasible. Our Technext Events project, which handled more than 10,000 tickets with QR check-in, shows how we approach high order volumes.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can customers pay with EcoCash on a WooCommerce store?

Yes. The usual route is Paynow, which lists EcoCash among its payment methods and offers an official WooCommerce plugin. Once your merchant account is approved, we install and configure the plugin and test the full journey on a phone, including what happens when a customer does not approve the prompt in time.

Should our store price in US dollars or ZiG?

That depends on how you buy stock, how competitors price and what your gateway supports. Many Zimbabwean businesses quote in US dollars, while ZiG circulates widely for everyday payments. We help you decide during discovery and then test that the store, the gateway and your accounting all agree on the same currency.

Can we accept international cards?

Paynow lists Visa and Mastercard among its payment methods, which suits diaspora customers buying for family at home. We configure card payments alongside local options and check that receipts and order emails make sense to a customer paying from abroad.

Why not use Stripe or PayPal?

Zimbabwe is not on Stripe's list of supported countries for business accounts, so it is not an option for a company registered there. We focus on gateways that settle to Zimbabwean merchants. If your business also has an entity elsewhere, we can discuss whether an additional gateway makes sense.

How much does an ecommerce website cost?

WooCommerce stores normally fall under our Development service, which starts from $5,000, because payment integration, testing and order workflows involve real engineering. Smaller catalogues may cost less to set up than complex ones. We confirm the price in writing after a discovery call.

Who handles disputes and refunds?

Your business does, through your Paynow merchant account and WooCommerce. We set up the refund workflow in the store, document it for your staff and show them how to match payments to orders. If you choose ongoing maintenance, we keep the payment plugins up to date.
