Website cost, Ghana

How much does a website cost in Ghana?

The honest answer is that it depends on what the website has to do, and anyone who quotes a fixed figure before asking is guessing. This guide explains what drives the price, what you will pay to run a site in Ghana, and where our own starting prices sit.

Overview

The short answer, and the honest one.

If you search for website design prices in Ghana, you will find figures that range from very little to a great deal. The difference is rarely about the designer's rate alone. It comes down to how many pages and features the site needs, who writes the content, whether it takes payments, and who looks after it once it is live.

We would rather you understood those drivers before speaking to anyone, including us. A clear brief gets you comparable quotes, and comparable quotes protect you from paying for things you do not need or discovering missing items after launch.

In detail

What drives the cost.

01

What actually drives the price

Four things move a website's cost more than anything else. First, scope: the number of distinct page types and features, not the raw page count. Second, content: whether you supply finished text and photos or need them created. Third, integrations: payments, CRMs, school management systems or accounting tools each add design, build and testing work. Fourth, ownership after launch: a site with nobody maintaining it is cheaper on day one and expensive the first time it breaks. A good quote names each of these explicitly.

02

The kinds of website and what each involves

A brochure site for a professional firm presents services, team and contact details, and mostly needs good design and solid content. A school or association site adds news, events and sometimes logins for parents or members. An ecommerce shop adds products, stock, delivery rules and a mobile money checkout. A portal or learning platform adds user accounts, workflows and dashboards. Each step up adds planning, custom work and testing, which is why the same agency can quote very differently for sites that look alike on the surface.

03

Running costs to budget for in Ghana

Beyond the build, plan for recurring costs. A .com.gh domain is renewed with an accredited registrar under the Ghana Network Information Center, and is usually priced higher than a .com. Hosting is an annual or monthly fee, more for managed hosting with backups and support. If you sell online, Paystack or Flutterwave charge a fee per transaction on mobile money and cards in cedis. Business email on your domain is usually priced per mailbox. We list each of these in our quotes rather than leaving them for you to discover.

04

Compliance and tax are part of the budget

Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) requires data controllers and processors to register with the Data Protection Commission, and registrations are renewed. If your site collects personal data, include that registration in your planning. On tax, the Ghana Revenue Authority treats website supply and web hosting from non-resident suppliers as electronic services subject to VAT, unless supplied through a VAT-registered agent. Ask any supplier based outside Ghana how they handle this, and take advice from your accountant on how it applies to you.

05

Where our starting prices sit

We publish starting prices in US dollars so you can judge fit quickly. Strategy and design work, covering discovery, website design, redesigns and landing pages, starts from $1,500 per project. Development, including custom features, WooCommerce shops, portals and learning platforms, starts from $5,000 per project. Migrations start from $1,000 per migration. Managed services, covering hosting, maintenance, security and support, start from $2,000 per year. These are floors, not packages: your actual price comes from a written scope.

06

How to get an accurate quote

Write down what the site must let people do, who will use it, which payments you need, what content exists already, and any deadline that cannot move. Share examples of sites you like and say why. Ask every supplier what is excluded, who owns the code and domain, and what support costs after launch. When we receive a brief like this, we reply with questions, then a written scope and fixed price you can compare line by line.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why do website quotes in Ghana vary so much?

Because suppliers are often quoting for different things. One quote may include content, payments, training and a year of support, while another covers only a template install. Ask each supplier for a written scope that lists features, exclusions and running costs, and compare those rather than the headline price.

Do you quote in cedis?

We quote and price in US dollars, which keeps our figures stable for both sides. If your organisation needs to pay from a cedi account, raise it at the start and we will agree a payment route in the written scope. Your website itself can of course show prices and take payment in GHS.

Is a .com.gh domain worth the extra cost?

For many organisations serving Ghanaian customers, yes. A .com.gh address signals a local, registered business. Reported rules require a Ghana-registered company and a local administrator, so it also takes a little more paperwork than a .com. If you already own a .com, we can keep it as a redirect.

What are the hidden costs after launch?

The usual ones are domain renewal, hosting, payment gateway fees, email mailboxes, premium plugin licences and maintenance. None of them are hidden if they are listed upfront, which is why our quotes name each one. The most expensive surprise is usually an unmaintained site that gets hacked or stops taking payments.

Can we start small and add features later?

Yes, and it is often the sensible route. We can launch a well-built core site, then add a shop, portal or learning area in later phases. We plan the structure so later additions slot in without rebuilding, and each phase gets its own written scope.

How do we get a fixed price from you?

Send us your brief or book a short call. Accra is one hour behind Lagos, so we can talk during your working day. We follow up with questions, then a written scope with deliverables, timeline and a fixed price. Work only starts once you approve it.
