Overview

Web Hosting for organisations in Tanzania.

Search for web hosting in Tanzania and you will find plenty of local companies selling shared plans and domains. Cheap hosting is fine for a small site. Where it falls down is when nobody is responsible for speed, updates, backups or security.

Managed hosting means the server is chosen for your site, configured for WordPress and watched by people who will act when something goes wrong. That is the service we provide, alongside the maintenance that keeps the site itself healthy.

In detail

Web Hosting in Tanzania, in detail.

01

Where the server sits, and why it matters

Server location affects speed and compliance. A server far from Tanzania adds a delay to every request, which caching and a content delivery network can largely hide for public pages. Compliance is harder to hide. DLA Piper's guide to the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 says personal data may only go abroad with adequate protection or safeguards and the Commission's authorisation. We document where your data lives so your adviser can judge it.

02

Speed on mobile data

With mobile broadband making up most internet subscriptions in Tanzania, many visitors arrive on a phone bundle. We configure server caching, compress images, serve modern formats and remove scripts that do nothing for the visitor. A lighter page costs your visitors less data and loads faster on a weak signal. We test pages on a throttled phone connection, not only on office fibre, before calling the work finished.

03

Your .tz domain and DNS

Since 2022 you can register directly under .tz, and the local presence requirement has been removed. Companies still often choose .co.tz, organisations .or.tz, and schools .sc.tz or .ac.tz. Domains are registered through a TZNIC accredited registrar. We keep the domain in your name, manage DNS so the site and email point to the right places, and track renewal dates so nothing lapses.

04

What our partners provide

Through Cloudways and Hostinger we can pick a plan sized to your traffic, with isolated resources, free SSL certificates, server-level caching and staging copies for testing. We handle the setup, migrations from your current host and the monitoring afterwards. You keep billing transparency and ownership of the account. If you outgrow the plan, we move you to a larger one with little or no downtime.

05

Backups, security and uptime

Hosting with us includes daily backups kept at more than one location, malware scanning, a web application firewall where the plan supports it, and uptime alerts. If a site goes down, we see it first and act during our working day, which overlaps closely with East Africa Time. Every incident is noted in your monthly report, along with what we did about it and what we changed to prevent a repeat.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you host websites inside Tanzania?

Our managed hosting runs through our partners Cloudways and Hostinger, whose data centres are outside Tanzania. If your legal adviser decides certain data must stay in the country, we will tell you honestly that a local provider is the better fit for that part and help plan around it.

Will a server outside Tanzania make our site slow?

Distance adds some delay, but caching, compression and a content delivery network reduce it a great deal for most visitors. For pages that cannot be cached, such as checkout, we keep the code lean so they still respond quickly. We measure real load times from Tanzania after launch and adjust if needed.

Can you move our site from a local host?

Yes. We copy the site to the new server, test it on a temporary address, then switch DNS at a quiet time. Email is planned separately so nothing is lost during the move. Hosting migrations fall under Migrations, from $1,000 per migration, or within a Managed Services plan.

Who registers our .tz domain?

Domains are registered through a TZNIC accredited registrar, in your organisation's name. If you already have one, we simply manage the DNS. If not, we guide you through registering it so the ownership stays with you. Keeping it in your own name means you never need our permission to make changes.

What does managed hosting cost?

Hosting is part of our Managed Services, which start from $2,000 per year and include updates, backups, security and monitoring. The exact figure depends on your traffic and what the site does. We confirm it in a written scope. Your domain renewal and any business email subscriptions are billed separately by those providers.
