School websites in Tanzania that parents can actually use

Overview

School Websites for organisations in Tanzania.

Parents look at a school website for a handful of things: how to apply, what fees are due, when term starts and what is happening this week. If those answers are hard to find on a phone, they call the office instead.

A good school site saves staff time and builds trust with families. It also carries personal data about children, which raises the standard for how it is built and who can see what.

In detail

School Websites in Tanzania, in detail.

01

Admissions that do not get lost

We build admissions pages that explain entry requirements, deadlines and documents clearly, followed by an online application form that saves each submission to a secure list your admissions team can work through. Applicants get an automatic acknowledgement. You can add stages such as assessment booked, offer sent and place accepted, so nothing depends on someone remembering an email. Reports show how many applications arrived and where each one stands.

02

Fees by mobile money

Many Tanzanian parents pay school fees by phone. We add a fee payment page using a local aggregator such as Pesapal or AzamPay, so parents can pay by M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas or Airtel Money, or by card through Selcom. Each payment records the pupil reference, and receipts go to the parent automatically. Wallets set their own transaction limits, so for large termly fees we offer card or bank options alongside.

03

Safeguarding pupil data

Names, ages, photographs and medical notes about children are personal data under the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022, and some may count as sensitive. We keep pupil records behind logins, restrict staff roles, avoid publishing identifiable photos without consent and set retention rules for applications. The school, as data controller, registers with the Personal Data Protection Commission; we document the technical side to support that.

04

News, calendars and parent pages

Staff can post news, publish the term calendar and share letters as downloads without technical help. A parent area can hold timetables, uniform lists and policies. Pages are built in Kiswahili and English where your community needs both, and designed to load quickly on mobile data. The calendar can feed into parents' phone calendars, so key dates appear without anyone copying them by hand.

05

The right domain for a school

Tanzania has education domains: .sc.tz for primary and secondary schools and .ac.tz for colleges and universities. They signal that the site is a genuine institution. We help you set up the address, connect email for staff and point it at the new site. We check the current eligibility rules with an accredited registrar before you apply, and the domain is always registered in the school's own name.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can parents pay school fees on the website?

Yes. We integrate a Tanzanian gateway so parents can pay with mobile money or card, with the pupil reference captured and a receipt sent automatically. Your bursar sees each payment in the dashboard and can export records for accounting. Unpaid balances can be followed up from the same records.

Is it safe to put pupil information on a website?

Only behind proper access controls, and only what is needed. Public pages should not identify individual children without consent. Records such as applications sit in a secure area visible to authorised staff only. We help you decide what belongs where.

Does our school need to register with the PDPC?

DLA Piper's guide to the Act says all data controllers must register with the Personal Data Protection Commission, and schools handle a lot of personal data. Your adviser can confirm your position. We provide a clear summary of what the website collects to support the registration.

Can we add online learning later?

Yes. A WordPress school site can grow into a learning platform with courses, quizzes and certificates. We plan the structure so that step does not mean starting again. Pupils' existing accounts, classes and records can carry across, so the transition is smooth for families and teachers.

What does a school website cost?

A school information site falls under Strategy and Design, from $1,500 per project. Adding fee payments, applications or a parent portal makes it a Development project, from $5,000. We send a fixed written quote after a scoping call. Many schools start with the information site and add payments in a later phase.
