E-learning platforms for Tanzanian trainers, schools and organisations

We build learning platforms on WordPress for Tanzanian course providers, schools and organisations training staff or members. Courses, quizzes, certificates and payments come together in one place you own.

Overview

E-learning Platforms for organisations in Tanzania.

Hosted course platforms are quick to start but charge monthly fees in foreign currency, take a share of sales, and rarely support the mobile money wallets Tanzanian learners use. Since 2022 many foreign digital services may also add Tanzanian VAT for unregistered buyers.

A WordPress learning platform puts the courses, learner records and payments on your own domain. We have built one for an online school taking payments in four currencies and a virtual learning environment for a school group.

In detail

E-learning Platforms in Tanzania, in detail.

01

Courses built for phones

Most Tanzanian learners will study on a handset over mobile data. We structure courses into short lessons, compress video or link it from a streaming service that adjusts quality, offer downloadable notes for offline reading and keep quizzes simple to complete on a small screen. Progress saves automatically, so a dropped connection does not mean starting a lesson again. Lesson pages are kept free of heavy scripts that would slow older phones.

02

Selling courses with mobile money

If learners pay for courses, the checkout needs Tanzanian options. We connect a local aggregator such as Pesapal or AzamPay for M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas and Airtel Money prompts, plus card payment through Selcom for learners abroad. Enrolment happens automatically once the gateway confirms payment, and receipts are sent without anyone in your office lifting a finger. Failed or abandoned payments are flagged so your team can follow up, and refunds are handled through the gateway's own process, which we document for your staff.

03

Quizzes, assessment and certificates

We set up quizzes with question banks, pass marks and retakes, assignments that tutors can grade, and certificates that generate automatically with the learner's name, course and date. Each certificate can carry a unique code that employers or partners can check on your site, which adds weight to the qualification. Tutors see results for their own groups, and administrators can export grades for reporting or accreditation bodies.

04

Learner records and the 2022 Act

A learning platform holds names, contact details, progress and grades, and sometimes data about minors. That brings duties under the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022, including registration with the Personal Data Protection Commission. We limit what is collected at sign-up, separate marketing consent, restrict tutor access to their own learners and give you tools to export or delete a learner's data on request.

05

Bilingual courses and content

Swahili is the national language and English dominates secondary and higher education, so many course providers need both. We set the platform up so courses, lessons and interface text can exist in each language, and learners choose at enrolment. Your subject experts write or approve the content in each language. The interface language and the course language can be set separately, which helps when a course exists in only one of them.

The BFI School platform, with courses, certificates, affiliates and payments in four currencies, and the Alvina Schools virtual learning environment are the closest examples of what we would build.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why build an LMS on WordPress instead of using a hosted platform?

You own the platform, the learner data and the domain, pay no share of course sales to a platform, and can integrate Tanzanian payment gateways. The trade-off is that you need someone to maintain it, which we offer through Managed Services from $2,000 per year.

Can learners pay with M-Pesa?

Yes, through an aggregator. Pesapal and AzamPay both offer WooCommerce plugins that prompt the learner's phone for M-Pesa and other wallets, and enrolment follows automatically once payment is confirmed. Learners can also pay by card through Selcom if they are outside Tanzania or prefer it.

Can we train staff privately rather than sell courses?

Yes. Many organisations use the same platform for internal training, with courses visible only to logged-in staff, assigned learning paths and reports for managers. No payment gateway is needed in that case. Completion reports show who has finished each course, which helps with compliance or professional development records.

Will video use too much data?

Video is the heaviest part of any course. We host it on a streaming service that adapts quality to the connection, keep lessons short and provide text summaries, so learners on small bundles can still progress. Audio-only versions of some lessons are another option where they suit the subject.

What does an e-learning platform cost?

Learning platforms are Development projects starting from $5,000. The price depends on the number of course types, assessment features, payment needs and integrations. We confirm it in a written scope. Many providers launch with a few courses and add advanced features once learners are enrolled.
