E-learning platform development for US course providers

We build online learning platforms on WordPress for American training companies, coaches, associations and schools. Courses, quizzes, certificates and payments run on a platform you own, not a rented one.

Overview

E-learning Platforms for organisations in the United States.

Hosted course platforms are quick to start but expensive to grow, and they limit how your brand, data and pricing work. A WordPress learning platform gives you control: your own domain, your own student data, payment gateways you choose, and features shaped around how you teach rather than around a vendor's roadmap.

Our clearest example is BFI School, which we built for BFI Insights LLC, a US company. It runs courses with payments in NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, issues certificates and pays affiliates for referrals. We have also built the Alvina Schools virtual learning environment, used by pupils and teachers.

In detail

E-learning Platforms in the United States, in detail.

01

Courses, quizzes and certificates

We build on established WordPress learning plugins and extend them where your teaching needs it. Courses can be organised into modules and lessons with video, downloads and assignments. Quizzes support different question types and pass marks. Certificates are generated automatically when a learner completes a course, with your branding and a verification route if employers or regulators need to check them. Drip schedules, prerequisites and cohorts are available when your programme needs structure.

02

Payments and access for US learners

Most US learners expect to pay by card, Apple Pay or PayPal. We connect Stripe or WooPayments for cards and subscriptions, and PayPal Checkout for PayPal, Venmo and Pay Later. Corporate training buyers sometimes prefer bank payment, which Stripe's ACH Direct Debit supports from US accounts. Purchases unlock the right courses automatically, and memberships, bundles, coupons and group seats for companies can be added. Like BFI School, the platform can also price in other currencies if you sell abroad.

03

Accessible lessons

Online learning has to work for learners with disabilities, and the Department of Justice's ADA guidance covers what businesses offer online. Public colleges and other public bodies face WCAG 2.1 AA requirements under Title II. We build course pages, quizzes and players that work with a keyboard and screen readers, and we make captions and transcripts easy for instructors to add. We also train course authors so new lessons stay accessible after launch.

04

Learner data, privacy and email

A learning platform collects names, emails, progress and sometimes assessments. We keep learner data in your WordPress database rather than scattered across tools, limit staff access by role, and set up consent for marketing where state laws like the CCPA call for it. Course reminders and receipts are transactional, while marketing emails carry the postal address and opt-out that CAN-SPAM requires. If you teach children under 13, COPPA consent is planned in from the start.

05

How we build your platform

We start by mapping your courses, pricing models, learner journey and integrations, then agree a written scope. Design and build happen on staging, with a pilot course tested end to end, including payment, access, completion and certificate. E-learning platforms are development projects starting from $5,000, priced in US dollars. Hosting and care are available through Managed Services from $2,000 per year.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why build on WordPress instead of a hosted course platform?

You own the platform, the learner data and the design, and you choose the payment gateways. There are no per-student platform fees beyond your hosting, plugins and gateway charges. Hosted platforms suit some creators starting out; WordPress suits those who want control and room to grow.

Can we sell to companies as well as individuals?

Yes. We can add group seats, company accounts and invoicing alongside individual checkout. Stripe's ACH Direct Debit suits US companies that prefer to pay from a bank account rather than a card. Managers can follow their team's progress through a reporting view, and invoices can be issued for bulk seat purchases.

Can you show e-learning platform examples you have built?

BFI School, for US company BFI Insights LLC, is our main example: courses with payments in four currencies, certificates and affiliates. The Alvina Schools virtual learning environment shows a school setting. Both are in our case studies. We can walk you through either platform on a call.

Can learners pay in currencies other than USD?

Yes. BFI School takes payments in NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, so multi-currency pricing is familiar ground. For most US platforms we set USD as the main currency and add others only if you sell abroad. Each currency needs a gateway that supports it, which we confirm during discovery.

What does an e-learning platform cost?

Our e-learning builds start from $5,000 as development projects, quoted in US dollars. Course volume, payment models, integrations and custom features shape the final figure, which we confirm in a written scope. Budget separately for hosting, plugin licences and gateway fees, which we list in the proposal.
