WordPress developers for Ugandan projects that have outgrown a template

We are a specialist WordPress team that Ugandan organisations hire when a site needs custom themes, plugins, WooCommerce or mobile money integration done properly. Projects start from $5,000, with the scope agreed in writing first.

Overview

WordPress Developers for organisations in Uganda.

Finding someone who can install WordPress in Kampala is easy. Finding developers who can write a plugin to WordPress standards, integrate MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money correctly, and still be around to support it two years later is harder.

WPFlat is part of Digitalzooks and has worked only on WordPress since 2020. Our team in Nigeria works remotely with organisations across Africa, the UK and the USA, and every project gets a named lead developer backed by colleagues who review the work.

In detail

WordPress Developers in Uganda, in detail.

01

Why a team rather than a lone developer

Many Ugandan websites were built by one talented person who has since moved on, leaving no documentation and admin passwords nobody can find. A team works differently. Code lives in a shared repository, changes are reviewed by a second developer, and notes are written for whoever comes next. You still have one person to talk to, but your website no longer depends on that person's diary or phone number.

02

Custom themes and plugins

We build lightweight custom themes rather than stacking a heavy multipurpose theme on a page builder, which matters when visitors pay a 12% excise duty on data on top of their bundle. Custom plugins handle the rules that generic ones cannot: an NGO's grant application stages, an association's renewal cycle, a distributor's reseller pricing. Each is documented and written to WordPress coding standards.

03

WooCommerce with mobile money

A Ugandan WooCommerce store needs MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money as first-class options. We connect WooCommerce to Pesapal's official plugin or to Flutterwave, then customise the parts that plugins leave generic: order statuses, payment reminders, receipts in UGX and reports your accountant can reconcile. Every flow is tested on both networks in sandbox before a single real shilling changes hands.

04

Privacy built into the code

Developers decide what a site stores. Under the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, organisations processing personal data must register with the Personal Data Protection Office and report breaches immediately, so storage choices have consequences. We collect the minimum, restrict exports and admin screens by role, and keep logs that would let you explain an incident to the PDPO quickly and accurately.

05

Support on East Africa Time

Kampala is two hours ahead of our team in Lagos, which gives a long overlap each working day. After launch you can keep us on a Managed Services plan, from $2,000 per year, for updates, security and small improvements, or hand the site to an in-house developer with our documentation and a recorded walkthrough of the codebase. Either way, the code and the hosting account remain yours.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you have WordPress developers in Uganda?

No. Our developers are based in Nigeria and work remotely, and we have no Kampala office. That works well in practice: East Africa Time is two hours ahead of Lagos, so our days overlap, and projects run on shared boards, staging links and scheduled calls.

Can you fix a site a previous developer left half-finished?

Often, yes. We start with a paid code and security review so we know what we are inheriting, then advise whether to complete, refactor or rebuild. You receive the review in writing either way, so the decision stays with you.

How do you price development work?

Our Development service begins at $5,000 per project, quoted in US dollars after a written scope. Ongoing support and small changes sit in Managed Services from $2,000 per year. If your finance team needs an indicative shilling figure for budgeting, we can add one to the quote.

Can you train our staff to manage the site?

Yes. Every handover includes training for editors and administrators, plus recorded walkthroughs. If you have an in-house developer, we also take them through the code, repository and deployment process so they can maintain and extend it with confidence after we step back.

Will you integrate both MTN and Airtel mobile money?

Yes. Flutterwave and Pesapal both collect UGX through MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money, and Pesapal adds Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards. We help you choose based on the fees and settlement terms each quotes you, then build and test the integration.
