Website design, Uganda

Website design in Uganda that works on the phone in your customer's hand

We design WordPress websites for Ugandan businesses, schools and NGOs, starting from how your visitors actually browse. That usually means a phone, a data bundle and a decision made in under a minute.

Overview

Website Design for organisations in Uganda.

Good website design in Uganda is less about trends and more about removing friction. A visitor in Mbarara checking your prices on a prepaid bundle will not wait for a slider of oversized photos. A parent comparing schools wants fees, location and how to apply, not a mission statement.

Our design process begins with discovery: who visits, what they need to do, and what your team must manage afterwards. From there we wireframe, design in the browser and build on WordPress so your staff can edit content without calling a developer.

In detail

Website Design in Uganda, in detail.

01

Designing for data that people pay for

Ugandans have paid a 12% excise duty on internet data since July 2021, on top of the bundle price. Every unnecessary megabyte on your homepage is a small cost to the visitor. We design layouts that load the essentials first, serve images in modern formats at the right size, and keep fonts and scripts to a minimum. We check every template on a mid-range Android device before sign-off, not just on a large office monitor.

02

Calls to action that suit local habits

Many Ugandan customers would rather send a WhatsApp message or call than fill in a long form. We design contact options to match: click-to-call buttons, WhatsApp links and short enquiry forms that ask only for what you will use. Where you sell online, the design makes room for mobile money at checkout so buyers see from the start that they can pay with MTN or Airtel.

03

Forms designed with the PDPO in mind

A contact or application form collects personal data, which brings it under the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019. We design forms with a plain consent line, a link to your privacy notice and no fields you do not need. It is a small design decision that makes registration with the Personal Data Protection Office and later audits far easier. We also make sure submissions go to the right inbox or system and are not left sitting in a plugin table nobody reviews.

04

Redesigning an existing Ugandan site

If you already have a site on a .co.ug domain, we start with an audit: what pages bring traffic, which forms bring enquiries and what is slowing things down. We keep URLs that rank, redirect those we retire and move content across carefully, so a redesign does not undo search visibility you have already earned. We also check how the current site performs on mobile data before and after, so you can see the improvement rather than take it on trust.

05

Design ownership and handover

You own the finished design and the WordPress site. We hand over a simple style guide covering colours, type and components, plus short video walkthroughs recorded for your team, so new pages stay consistent long after launch. Templates are built as reusable WordPress blocks, so adding a new service page or a term-date announcement means filling in content, not rebuilding a layout. If you later change suppliers, nothing is locked to us.

Our work

Platforms we have built.

Our team designed the corporate site for Verbatim and the learning environment for Alvina Schools, two projects that show clear content structure for very different audiences.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does website design cost in Uganda with you?

Strategy and design projects start from $1,500. The final figure depends on the number of unique page templates, content support and any features such as booking or payments. We scope in writing before quoting, so you see exactly what is included. Our separate cost guide for Uganda explains what drives the price.

Will my site work well for visitors outside Kampala?

That is the point of designing mobile-first and data-light. We test pages on mid-range Android phones and throttled connections, keep image weights low and avoid heavy scripts, so the site stays usable wherever mobile coverage is patchier or data is more expensive. We also check that key information such as prices, contact details and opening hours appears near the top of the page.

Can you design a school website?

Yes. School sites usually need admissions guidance, fees information, term calendars, news and a gallery, with a design parents can navigate quickly on a phone. If you need online lessons or a pupil area, we design for that too, drawing on the virtual learning environment our team built for Alvina Schools.

How do we review designs if you are in Nigeria?

We share designs as clickable prototypes and hold review calls during the overlap in our working days, since Kampala is only two hours ahead of Lagos. You can leave comments directly on the designs, and we confirm every round of changes in writing. Nothing moves into development until you have approved the design.

Do you write the content?

We help structure it and can edit what you supply so it reads well on a small screen. For full copywriting we agree that in the scope. Your team knows your services, fees and policies best, so we usually work from your drafts. We also prepare headings and meta descriptions for search.
