Managed hosting, Uganda

Managed WordPress hosting for websites serving Uganda

Cheap hosting is easy to find; hosting that stays fast, backed up and secure takes management. We run WordPress hosting for Ugandan organisations through our partners Cloudways and Hostinger, and look after it for you.

Overview

Web Hosting for organisations in Uganda.

Searches for web hosting in Uganda tend to focus on price. Price matters, but the bigger costs usually come from a slow server, missing backups or an expired domain. We are not a hosting company ourselves; we choose and manage infrastructure from our partners and take responsibility for keeping your WordPress site healthy on it.

Managed services, including hosting management, start from $2,000 per year. The server plan itself is chosen to fit your traffic and budget, and we explain the trade-offs before you commit.

In detail

Web Hosting in Uganda, in detail.

01

Choosing a server location for Ugandan visitors

Distance between your server and your visitors adds delay to every request. We look at where your audience is, which data centres our partners offer, and whether a content delivery network can serve images and files closer to Ugandan users. For most sites a well-configured server with caching and a CDN gives quick load times in Kampala and beyond, without paying for hardware you do not need.

02

Hosting and the Data Protection and Privacy Act

Where your site stores personal data matters under Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, which places conditions on processing and storing personal data outside Uganda. Registration with the Personal Data Protection Office asks about such transfers. We document where your data sits, who can access it and how it is backed up, so you can answer accurately and take advice where needed.

03

Domains on .ug and .co.ug

Most Ugandan businesses use .co.ug, while schools, NGOs and public bodies have their own second-level names such as .sc.ug, .ac.ug and .or.ug. Because .ug registrations expect name servers to be live and answering at the time of registration, we set up hosting and DNS before the domain order goes in, then connect email records so your mail keeps working. The domain stays in your name.

04

Light hosting for data-conscious visitors

Server-side caching, image compression and HTTP/2 or HTTP/3 delivery all reduce what each page costs a visitor on a data bundle. With a 12% excise duty on internet data in Uganda, that efficiency is worth configuring properly rather than leaving to defaults. We also set sensible browser caching so returning visitors do not download the same files twice, and we review page weight after launch whenever new plugins or media are added. Small gains on every page add up for a visitor on a limited bundle.

05

Backups, updates and monitoring included

Managed hosting with us includes daily off-site backups, uptime monitoring, security hardening and WordPress updates tested before release. If something fails at 7am in Kampala, which is 5am in Lagos, monitoring alerts reach us so problems are picked up as our day begins. Backups are kept separately from the main server, and we test restores periodically so a backup is proven to work before you ever need it.

Platforms our team built, such as Technext Events ticketing and the TAWASV podcast platform, show the hosting demands we plan for: traffic peaks and heavy media.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much is hosting a website in Uganda?

Server costs vary with traffic, storage and the provider, so we do not quote a single figure. Our managed services start from $2,000 per year and cover management, monitoring, backups and updates. The underlying server plan is priced separately by the partner and we help you pick one that suits your site.

Can my site be hosted inside Uganda?

If in-country hosting is a firm requirement for you, tell us at the start. We check what our partners Cloudways and Hostinger offer, and where that does not fit, we can manage your WordPress site on a local provider you choose instead. We discuss performance, support and data protection considerations with you either way.

Will you register my .co.ug domain?

We can guide registration through an accredited registrar in your organisation's name, so you remain the legal owner. We prepare DNS first, since .ug registrations expect name servers to be responding, and we keep track of renewals afterwards. Login details stay with you.

Can you move my site from my current host?

Yes. Migrations start from $1,000. We copy the site to the new server, test it on a temporary address, switch DNS at a quiet time and keep the old host running until everything is confirmed, so visitors and email are not interrupted.

What about email on my domain?

We set up the DNS records for your email provider, including SPF, DKIM and DMARC, so messages from your domain are trusted and less likely to land in spam. We can recommend providers but you hold the account. We document every record we add.
