WordPress development, Uganda

WordPress development for Ugandan organisations that need more than a brochure site

When a website has to run admissions, courses, recruitment or payments, the build matters more than the look. We are WordPress developers who write custom themes, plugins and integrations for organisations in Uganda.

Overview

Web Development for organisations in Uganda.

Most development work we are asked about falls into a few patterns: a learning platform for a school or training provider, a portal where staff or members log in, a dashboard that replaces a spreadsheet, or a system that connects the website to payments and email. Each one is built on WordPress so your team keeps control of content, with custom code where off-the-shelf plugins fall short.

Development projects start from $5,000, scoped in writing. We do not have a Ugandan client to point to yet, so we show systems our Nigeria team built that solve problems Ugandan organisations describe to us.

In detail

Web Development in Uganda, in detail.

01

Learning platforms for schools and trainers

Ugandan schools, colleges and professional trainers increasingly want lessons, assignments and resources online. Our team built the virtual learning environment for Alvina Schools and the BFI School online school, which handles courses, certificates and affiliates. For a Ugandan institution we can scope the same building blocks: enrolment, course content, quizzes, progress tracking, certificates and fee payment through mobile money, all inside a WordPress site staff already know how to update.

02

Mobile money and payment integrations

Integrating MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money is rarely a single plugin install. Payments are confirmed asynchronously after the customer approves on their phone, so the site has to handle callbacks, timeouts and retries correctly. We build and test these flows with gateways such as Flutterwave and Pesapal in sandbox mode, log every callback, and make sure an order or fee record is never marked paid until the gateway confirms it.

03

Portals, dashboards and workflows

For ASEP Logistics our team built a recruitment portal with an HR dashboard, turning applications into a structured pipeline. The same approach suits Ugandan NGOs managing beneficiary applications, associations handling member renewals or companies running supplier registration. We model the workflow, set user roles and permissions carefully, and build reporting your managers can export. Notifications go out by email at each stage, so applicants are not left wondering.

04

Security and data handling by design

Portals hold exactly the kind of personal data the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 protects, and the Act expects breaches to be reported to the PDPO immediately. We limit what is collected, restrict access by role, encrypt connections, keep audit logs and plan backups and retention from the start. It is far easier than retrofitting privacy into a live system.

05

Code you own and can maintain

Custom plugins are written to WordPress coding standards, kept in version control and documented. You own the code. If you later hire an in-house developer in Kampala, they can pick up where we left off without reverse-engineering anything. We also avoid stacking dozens of plugins to imitate a feature that a small, well-documented custom plugin can do more reliably. Fewer moving parts means fewer updates to break, a faster site and lower maintenance costs over the years.

Platforms we have built.

These three builds by our team map most closely to Ugandan development requests: an online school with payments and certificates, a school learning environment, and a recruitment portal.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why use WordPress for a learning platform or portal?

WordPress gives you a mature content editor, a large developer community and solid membership and learning tools, so you are not locked into one vendor. We add custom code only where your workflow needs it. That keeps running costs and future hiring manageable for a Ugandan organisation.

Can a school collect fees through the website?

Yes, with the right gateway. We can connect fee invoices or course enrolments to a provider that accepts MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money and cards in shillings. Parents approve the payment on their phone and the record updates automatically. Your bursar still controls fee amounts and reconciliation.

How long does a development project take?

It depends on scope, which is why we write a specification first. A focused portal or integration is shorter than a full learning platform with several user types. The written scope sets milestones and dates, and you see working features on a staging site at each stage.

Who hosts the finished system?

You can host it with your preferred provider, or we can manage hosting through our partners Cloudways and Hostinger. For systems holding personal data we discuss server location, backups and access controls with you before launch, in light of the Data Protection and Privacy Act.

Do you work with our in-house IT team?

Gladly. We often work alongside internal staff, sharing the repository, documentation and staging access. Kampala and Lagos are only two hours apart, so joint calls and code reviews fit easily into the same working day. We agree in the scope who owns which parts of the system after launch.
