E-learning platforms for Ugandan schools, colleges and trainers

We build learning management systems on WordPress for Ugandan institutions: registration, courses, quizzes, certificates and mobile money payments on your own domain. Builds start from $5,000 per project, and each one is scoped in writing.

Overview

E-learning Platforms for organisations in Uganda.

Searches for an e-learning platform in Uganda are dominated by people trying to log in or register on platforms that already exist. That tells us something useful: the hardest part of e-learning is often not the content but getting learners signed in, enrolled and back again next week.

We build platforms where registration is simple, lessons open quickly on a phone and payment by mobile money unlocks access straight away. You own the platform and the learner records, on a domain such as .ac.ug, .sc.ug or .co.ug.

In detail

E-learning Platforms in Uganda, in detail.

01

Registration and login that learners can manage

Login trouble is the most common support request on any learning platform. We keep registration short, allow sign-in with a phone number or email, and build a password reset that works reliably by email or SMS. For primary and secondary schools, staff can create accounts in bulk from a class list, so pupils and parents receive working logins on day one instead of queuing at the office.

02

Courses for primary, secondary and professional learners

A primary school needs simple lesson pages and worksheets; a professional trainer needs modules, assessments and certificates. We configure WordPress and a mature LMS plugin for your level: courses, lessons, quizzes, assignments and progress tracking, with tutors able to see who has not logged in. Content can open on a schedule to follow your term dates or intake calendar, so learners are not overwhelmed.

03

Mobile money enrolment

Learners and parents pay with their phones. We link enrolment to Pesapal or Flutterwave so MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money payments in UGX unlock a course automatically once confirmed, with cards for learners abroad. Our team built BFI School, which takes payments in NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, issues certificates and runs an affiliate programme, so multi-currency selling is familiar ground.

04

Children's data and the PDPO

A learning platform for under-18s processes children's personal data, which the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 allows only with prior parental or guardian consent, outside narrow exceptions. We add a guardian consent step to registration, restrict results and messages by role, and keep logs that support your registration with the Personal Data Protection Office and any breach notice you may need to give.

05

Designed around data costs

Video is the heaviest thing on a learning platform, and Ugandan learners pay a 12% excise duty on data. We compress video, offer audio or text alternatives, let learners download worksheets once and reuse them, and keep quiz pages light. Answers save as learners go, so a weak signal does not cost them their progress halfway through a test or an end-of-term assessment.

Our work

Platforms we have built.

Two learning builds by our team show what we deliver: the Alvina Schools virtual learning environment and the BFI School online school, which issues certificates and sells in four currencies.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you build an e-learning platform for a primary school?

Yes. For primary pupils we keep it simple: large buttons, short lessons, worksheets and parent-managed accounts. Teachers can post assignments and see who has completed them. The Alvina Schools virtual learning environment our team built is a good example of the approach.

Can learners use the platform on basic smartphones?

That is how we test it. Pages are light, video is compressed and alternatives such as audio or PDF are offered where possible. We check registration, lessons and quizzes on mid-range Android handsets over slower connections before launch, and again after major updates.

How much does an LMS cost to build?

Learning platforms fall under our Development service, starting from $5,000 per project in US dollars. The price depends on user types, payment rules, certificates and integrations. You receive a written scope and price after a discovery session, before any commitment.

Can we charge for courses in shillings?

Yes. Courses can be priced in UGX and paid by MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money or card through Pesapal or Flutterwave. If you also sell to learners outside Uganda, you can show prices in USD and take card payments from abroad.

Do we need to register with the PDPO for an e-learning platform?

If your organisation collects or processes personal data, which any learning platform does, the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 requires registration with the Personal Data Protection Office. Confirm your position with the PDPO or a lawyer; we make the platform's data handling easy to describe.

Who hosts and maintains the platform?

We can host it with our partners Cloudways or Hostinger and maintain it under Managed Services from $2,000 per year, or hand it to your IT team with documentation. You own the platform, its content and its learner data either way.
