Website redesign in Uganda that keeps what is already working

We redesign Ugandan websites on WordPress, keeping the domain, the search rankings and the content that earns enquiries while fixing what holds the site back. Strategy and Design starts from $1,500 per project.

Overview

Website Redesign for organisations in Uganda.

Most redesign briefs we receive from Uganda start with a frustration: the site is slow on a phone, the person who built it has gone, nobody can add a page, or customers cannot pay online. Those are all fixable. What should not happen is a new site that looks better but has lost the pages Google was sending visitors to.

So we begin with what you have. We measure it, keep the strong parts, and rebuild the rest on WordPress at the same .co.ug or .ug address.

In detail

Website Redesign in Uganda, in detail.

01

An audit that informs every decision

Our audit covers four things: traffic and search data, page speed on a mobile connection, the forms and personal data the site collects, and how hard it is for your staff to edit. Each finding is written up with a recommendation. The audit often shows that a handful of pages bring most enquiries, which tells us where design effort will pay back fastest and where a light touch is enough.

02

Protecting search traffic through the change

We list every existing URL and decide its future: keep, merge, rename or retire. Changed addresses receive permanent 301 redirects, page titles that already rank are preserved or improved, and the new sitemap is submitted on launch day. We then watch Search Console for errors in the weeks after, so a redesign adds visibility instead of resetting it to zero.

03

Lighter pages for a data-taxed audience

Older Ugandan sites are often weighed down by sliders, oversized photos and plugins nobody remembers installing. With a 12% excise duty on internet data, every extra megabyte is a cost your visitor pays. A redesign is the moment to cut that weight: new templates built from WordPress blocks, images resized for each screen, and only the scripts a page truly needs.

04

Adding mobile money and fixing forms

If your current site lists a merchant code and asks buyers to call, a redesign can replace that with a proper checkout using MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money through Flutterwave or Pesapal, confirmed automatically. We also rework forms around the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019: fewer fields, plain consent wording and a link to an up-to-date privacy notice, which supports your PDPO registration.

05

Switching over without disruption

The new site is built on a staging server while the old one keeps running. On launch day we switch DNS at a quiet hour, leaving your email records untouched so mail on the domain continues. If the redesign also means leaving another platform or host, we fold that move into the project. Your staff then get recorded training on the new editor, so updates do not depend on us.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website redesign cost in Uganda?

Redesigns start from $1,500 per project under Strategy and Design, priced in US dollars. If the redesign needs new functionality, such as a shop or portal, development is scoped on top. The audit helps keep costs down by showing which parts of the current site can be reused.

Will we lose our .co.ug domain or email?

No. We rebuild on your existing domain and leave the mail records in DNS as they are. The domain stays registered in your organisation's name, and we confirm email is flowing before and after the switch by sending test messages in both directions.

Our current site is not WordPress. Is that a problem?

Not at all. We move the content to WordPress as part of the redesign, mapping old pages to new ones and redirecting old addresses. The previous site remains available until you approve the new one, so there is always a fallback.

How long does a redesign take?

It depends on the number of templates, how much content changes and how quickly approvals come back. We set out the timeline and milestones in the written scope, and you review progress on a staging link at each step rather than waiting for a big reveal.

Can you redesign without changing our branding?

Yes. Many redesigns keep the logo, colours and tone and focus on structure, speed and usability. If you want a brand refresh too, we agree that in the scope so everyone is clear about what is changing and what is staying.
