WordPress developers, Rwanda

A WordPress team for Rwandan organisations, not a single freelancer

When you hire a WordPress developer for a Rwandan project, you are also choosing who answers when a payment callback fails or an update breaks a form. WPFlat is a specialist WordPress team, founded in 2020, and every engagement is scoped in writing before work begins.

Overview

WordPress Developers for organisations in Rwanda.

Freelancers can be excellent, and many Kigali businesses start with one. Trouble arrives later: the builder moves on, nobody understands the custom code, and the MoMo integration stops after an update. A team spreads that knowledge across several people, reviews each other's code and keeps written records of what was built.

Our developers are based in Nigeria and work remotely with organisations across Africa, the UK and the USA. We do not have an office or clients in Rwanda, so we show you comparable work and a detailed written scope instead of promises.

In detail

WordPress Developers in Rwanda, in detail.

01

Custom themes built for three languages

A Rwandan audience may expect Kinyarwanda, English, French or a mix. We build custom themes with translation in mind from the first template, so menus, buttons, form labels and error messages can each be translated rather than hard-coded in English. Layouts are tested with longer French strings and Kinyarwanda headings so nothing breaks on a narrow phone screen. The theme stays lean, without page-builder bloat, which keeps pages quick for visitors browsing on mobile data.

02

Plugins written for one job

When your workflow does not fit an existing plugin, we write one that does. Examples include an application form that routes submissions to a review panel, a booking tool with staff approval, or a fee tracker for a training centre. Each plugin follows WordPress coding standards, is stored in version control and comes with notes explaining how it works. You own it outright once the project is paid, so you are never tied to us to keep it running.

03

WooCommerce with Rwandan payment rails

Stripe does not list Rwanda among its supported countries, so a Rwandan store needs a different route to take money online. We connect WooCommerce to IremboPay or Flutterwave, which handle MTN MoMo, Airtel Money and cards, or to MTN's own Collections API where a direct integration makes sense. IremboPay can also accept RWF, USD, EUR and GBP, which helps when you sell to visitors and diaspora customers as well as local buyers.

04

Developer access to your data, handled under the law

A developer usually needs administrator access, and that means access to personal data. Under Law No. 058/2021, your organisation remains responsible for that data and must register with the NCSA as a controller. We work on staging copies wherever possible, use separate named accounts that you can revoke, and document every system that touches personal records, so your registration describes the site accurately.

05

Support after launch

Development does not end at launch. WordPress core, WooCommerce and payment plugins release updates regularly, and each one needs testing against your custom code. Our Managed Services, from $2,000 per year, cover updates, security monitoring and backups, carried out by the same team that wrote the code. Kigali is one hour ahead of us, so your working day and ours overlap almost entirely.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why hire a team rather than a freelance WordPress developer?

A freelancer can suit a small, simple site. For anything with payments, member data or custom code, a team gives you continuity: if one developer is unavailable, another already knows your project. Our code is reviewed before release and documented, so the knowledge does not live in one person's head.

Do you have developers in Kigali?

No. Our team is based in Nigeria and works remotely. Kigali is one hour ahead of Lagos, so we share almost the whole working day, and we run calls, demos and reviews online. Every project has a staging site you can open at any time.

Can you take over a WordPress site another developer built?

Yes. We start with a code and plugin audit to understand what was built, what is outdated and where the risks are. You get a written summary and a plan, which might be simple maintenance or a partial rebuild of fragile custom code. We need admin, hosting and domain access to do this properly.

What does hiring your developers cost?

Development projects start from $5,000, and design-only projects from $1,500. Ongoing support through Managed Services starts from $2,000 per year. We price each engagement from a written scope rather than an hourly rate, so you know the total before work begins and can compare it fairly with other quotes.

Can you build a site that accepts MoMo without Stripe?

Yes. Since Stripe is not available to Rwandan businesses, we use gateways that are: IremboPay and Flutterwave both support MTN MoMo and Airtel Money, and MTN offers its own API. You open the merchant account in your organisation's name, and we connect and test it on your site.

How do we get started?

Send us a short description of what you need. We hold a discovery call, review any existing site and then send a written scope with deliverables, timeline and a US dollar price. Work starts once you approve it, and you can see the first build on staging early in the project.
