School websites, Rwanda

School websites that parents in Rwanda can actually use

A school website does real work: it answers admissions questions, keeps parents informed and, increasingly, collects fees. We design and build WordPress websites for Rwandan schools with pupil data protected from the very first form.

Overview

School Websites for organisations in Rwanda.

Parents usually reach a school website on a phone, looking for something specific: term dates, the fee schedule, an admissions form or a notice about a closure. If that takes more than a couple of taps, they call the office instead. Our school sites are organised around those everyday tasks first, with the school's story and values close behind.

Our education work includes the virtual learning environment we built for Alvina Schools in Nigeria and the BFI School online platform. We bring that experience and plan your site around Rwandan requirements.

In detail

School Websites in Rwanda, in detail.

01

Admissions that start online

An online admissions form saves families a trip to the school and gives your office cleaner information. We build forms that collect what you need for an initial application, accept document uploads such as birth certificates or previous reports, and send the family a confirmation. Staff see applications in one dashboard and can mark each as received, interviewed or offered, so nobody tracks admissions in a spreadsheet beside the website.

02

Fees by mobile money

Many Rwandan parents prefer to pay by phone. Using IremboPay or Flutterwave, a school website can take fees through MTN MoMo, Airtel Money or card, with the payment confirmed back to the site so the bursar sees it immediately. We can set up fee items for tuition, uniforms or trips, and each parent receives an emailed receipt. The merchant account sits in the school's own name.

03

News, calendars and notices in three languages

Schools publish a steady stream of updates: term dates, events, exam timetables, closures. We give staff simple templates for each, a shared calendar that parents can view by term, and a notice banner for urgent messages. Where your community uses Kinyarwanda, English and French, each item can be published in the languages you choose, with a clear language switcher on every page.

04

Pupil data needs extra care

Admissions forms, photos and fee records all contain personal data about children and their families. Law No. 058/2021 applies to all of it, including registering the school with the NCSA as a controller and keeping data in Rwanda unless authorised otherwise. We limit who can see applications, avoid publishing identifiable pupil photos without consent, and make sure form entries do not sit on the server indefinitely.

05

A domain that signals a school

RICTA manages the .rw space, with .org.rw and .ac.rw among the second-level options alongside .co.rw, and your accredited registrar can confirm which one your school qualifies for and what documents it needs. We handle the technical setup, connect school email on the same domain and make sure the registration is in the school's name, not a staff member's or a former supplier's.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does a school website cost?

School websites fall under our Strategy & Design service, which starts from $1,500 per project. Adding online fee payments or a learning platform brings in development work, which starts from $5,000. We scope each school's needs in writing, so you can see exactly what each feature adds before deciding.

Can parents pay school fees on the website?

Yes. We connect the site to a Rwandan gateway such as IremboPay or Flutterwave so parents can pay with MTN MoMo, Airtel Money or a card. The school opens the merchant account, and we configure fee items, receipts and a payments report the bursar can export each term.

Do we need to register with the NCSA?

If your school collects personal data, which every admissions form does, Law No. 058/2021 expects you to register with the NCSA as a data controller. We document what the website collects and where it is stored to support your application. For legal questions, please check with the NCSA or a local adviser.

Can teachers update the website themselves?

Yes. We set up roles so teachers can post news or class updates without access to admissions or payments, and office staff can manage the calendar and notices. Training is included at handover, along with a short written guide your staff can refer to later.

Can the website include online lessons?

It can. A public school website and a learning platform usually work well as separate areas sharing one login. If you need courses, quizzes and certificates, see our e-learning platform service; we can plan both together so families have one place to go.

Who owns the website and domain?

The school does. The domain is registered in the school's name, the hosting account is yours, and you receive full admin access at launch. If you ever change supplier, nothing is held back, and the documentation we hand over lets a new team continue.
