Website migration for Kenyan sites, with nothing left behind

We move Kenyan websites to WordPress, to a better host or to a new domain, carrying content, orders, users and search rankings across. Migrations start from $1,000 per migration, scoped in writing.

Overview

Website Migration for organisations in Kenya.

A migration is the kind of project that is invisible when it goes well and painful when it does not. Missing pages, broken links, lost customer accounts and email that stops arriving are the usual casualties of a move done in a hurry.

We plan every migration as a sequence of checks: inventory what exists, move it to a staging copy, compare the two, then switch over at a quiet time with the old site kept intact until you are satisfied.

In detail

Website Migration in Kenya, in detail.

01

Moving from another CMS to WordPress

Kenyan organisations come to WordPress from Joomla, Drupal, Wix, older custom PHP systems and hosted shop builders. We export pages, posts, media, categories and authors, map old fields to WordPress structures and clean up formatting along the way. Where a platform makes export difficult, we script the extraction. You review the migrated content on staging before anything changes on the live domain.

02

Changing hosts without downtime

Moving from an overloaded shared host to managed hosting through Cloudways or Hostinger is one of the quickest wins for a slow site. We copy files and database, test on the new server through a temporary address, lower DNS cache times in advance and switch during a low-traffic window. The old host stays live until the new one is confirmed working end to end.

03

Domains, redirects and search rankings

Some migrations also change the address, for example from a .com to .co.ke, or merge two sites into one. Every old URL gets a permanent 301 redirect to its new equivalent, and we update the sitemap, canonical tags and Search Console settings. Changes to a .ke domain run through your KeNIC-accredited registrar, and the registration stays in your organisation's name throughout.

04

Orders, members and M-Pesa records

Shops and member sites carry more than pages. We migrate customers, order history, subscriptions and learner progress where the source system allows it, and reconnect payment gateways on the new site. Callback URLs for Paystack, Flutterwave, Pesapal or Daraja must point at the new address, so we update them and test with a live low-value payment before announcing the move.

05

Personal data in transit

A migration copies everything, including personal data covered by Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019. We transfer it over encrypted connections, avoid leaving database copies on laptops or old servers, and delete temporary exports once the move is confirmed. It is also a good moment to drop old form entries you no longer need, which shrinks the data you are responsible for.

Our work

Platforms we have built.

Migrations matter most for platforms like these, where orders, learners and tickets cannot go missing: the BFI School online school and the Technext Events ticketing system, both built by our team.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Will our site go offline during the migration?

Normally not for visitors. We build and test the new site in parallel, then switch DNS. Because DNS changes spread gradually, both servers may receive traffic for a short time, so we freeze content edits and orders for a brief, agreed window to avoid anything being lost.

Can you migrate from Wix or another site builder?

Yes, though hosted builders limit what can be exported. Pages and blog posts usually move well; complex layouts are rebuilt in WordPress. We test-migrate a sample first and tell you exactly what will carry over and what will be recreated.

Will we lose our Google rankings?

Rankings are protected by keeping useful content, mapping every old address with a 301 redirect and watching Search Console after launch. If the domain itself changes, expect a period of adjustment while search engines catch up, which we monitor and address as it happens.

How much does a website migration cost in Kenya?

Our Migrations service starts from $1,000 per migration, priced in US dollars. Cost rises with the volume of content, the complexity of the source platform and whether shops, members or learning data must move. We confirm the price in a written scope.

Do you move business email too?

Yes, if needed. We can migrate mailboxes to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Zoho, or simply preserve your existing mail records during a website move. Either way we check SPF, DKIM and DMARC before and after so mail keeps arriving.

Can you migrate a site that is hosted in Kenya?

Yes. We can move a site from a local Kenyan host to one of our partners, or between local hosts where in-country hosting is needed for data protection reasons. We agree the right destination with you, in writing, before moving anything.
