Overview

Web Hosting for organisations in Kenya.

Cheap shared hosting is easy to find in Kenya, and for a small static site it may be enough. For a WordPress site that takes payments, runs a members' area or serves thousands of students, the host matters far more than the monthly price suggests.

We do not resell space and walk away. We choose the server location and plan for your audience, configure caching and security, and keep watching it after launch.

In detail

Web Hosting in Kenya, in detail.

01

Choosing where your server sits

Distance adds delay. A site serving mainly Kenyan visitors benefits from a data centre with good routes to East Africa, plus a content delivery network to serve images and files from closer locations. We look at where your visitors actually are, test response times from Kenya and pick the region and provider plan to match. If much of your audience is in Europe or the Gulf, the answer changes, and we explain why.

02

When data has to stay in Kenya

Most business websites can be hosted outside Kenya, as long as transfers of personal data follow the Data Protection Act, 2019. Some processing cannot. Section 50 and the 2021 General Regulations require processing on strategic state grounds, which include certain education and health purposes, to run through a server in Kenya or keep a serving copy there. If your project touches those areas, we raise it early and plan hosting accordingly.

03

Your .ke domain, set up properly

KeNIC manages the .ke namespace: .co.ke for commercial ventures, .or.ke for non-profits, .sc.ke for schools and .ac.ke for higher education, plus the shorter .ke. School and university domains need supporting documents, such as a Ministry of Education certificate, before they are published. We handle DNS, SSL and business email records, and make sure renewals are not left to chance.

04

What managed means in practice

Managed hosting with us means daily off-site backups, a firewall, malware scanning, server-level caching, uptime monitoring and staging copies for safe testing. When your M-Pesa campaign or admissions window brings a traffic spike, we scale the server instead of waiting for it to fall over. You keep ownership of the hosting account, so you are never locked to us.

05

Speed on Kenyan mobile networks

A fast server is wasted if the pages it sends are heavy. Because many visitors in Kenya browse on prepaid bundles, we pair hosting with front-end work: compressed images in modern formats, minimal scripts and caching rules that serve repeat visits quickly. We measure results from a mobile connection rather than an office line, and keep tuning after launch as content and traffic grow.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you host websites on servers in Kenya?

Our hosting partners are Cloudways and Hostinger, and we choose the region that serves your visitors best. Where Kenyan law requires data to be processed in Kenya, for example on certain strategic state grounds, we tell you at the scoping stage and plan a compliant setup.

What does website hosting cost in Kenya?

Hosting on its own is a small part of the cost of running a site. Our Managed Services, which include hosting with maintenance, security and performance work, start from $2,000 per year. Your written quote shows exactly what the plan covers.

Can you move our site from a local Kenyan host?

Yes. Hosting migrations are part of our Migrations service, which starts from $1,000 per migration. We copy the site, test it on the new server, switch DNS at a quiet time and keep the old host in place until everything is confirmed.

Will you register our .co.ke domain?

We can manage the domain through an accredited registrar in your organisation's name, or work with the registrar you already use. For .sc.ke and .ac.ke we help gather the documents KeNIC asks for, and allow time for that check in the launch plan.

What about business email?

We set up the DNS records your email provider needs, such as SPF, DKIM and DMARC, so messages from your .co.ke address are delivered reliably and less likely to land in spam. Domain and email setup sits within our Managed Services, and we keep the records correct when providers change.
