WordPress development for Kenyan systems that need to work

When a Kenyan organisation needs a portal, a payment flow or a learning platform rather than a few pages, it needs developers who build carefully. That is our Development service, from $5,000 per project, scoped in writing.

Overview

Web Development for organisations in Kenya.

We write custom WordPress themes and plugins, build workflows and dashboards, and connect WordPress to the services your organisation already runs on. The aim is software your team can use and your next developer can read.

For Kenyan projects the integrations are often the hardest part: M-Pesa callbacks, gateway webhooks, SMS confirmations, accounting exports. We treat those as engineering work with tests and logs, not as a plugin installed and hoped for.

In detail

Web Development in Kenya, in detail.

01

Integrating Safaricom's Daraja API

Organisations with their own Till or Paybill often want payments to reach it directly. Safaricom's Daraja portal offers M-Pesa Express, the prompt a customer approves with their PIN, and callbacks that report the result. We build that flow into WordPress with a proper order or invoice record, handle timeouts and failed prompts, and log each callback so your finance team can reconcile payments against M-Pesa statements.

02

Gateways when you want less to maintain

Not every client should run a direct Daraja integration. Paystack lets Kenyan businesses accept cards, M-Pesa and Apple Pay and settles in KES or USD, while Flutterwave and Pesapal also offer M-Pesa collection. Gateways take on more of the compliance and reconciliation. We weigh limits too: Paystack's M-Pesa channel caps a single payment at KES 150,000 and does not support recurring charges, which matters for fees or subscriptions.

03

Portals, dashboards and custom workflows

Recruitment portals, member areas, application forms with review stages, staff dashboards: these are where WordPress, extended properly, saves organisations money compared with bespoke software. We model your process first, then build custom post types, roles and screens around it. For ASEP Logistics in Nigeria we built a recruitment portal and HR dashboard on exactly this approach, giving staff one place to review applicants and manage records.

04

Learning and membership platforms

Kenyan training providers, colleges and professional bodies increasingly sell courses online. We build learning and membership platforms with enrolment, payments, progress tracking and certificates. Where student or member records are involved we plan storage with the Data Protection Act, 2019 in mind, including the localisation rule that applies to some education and health processing under the 2021 General Regulations. Certificates, progress records and payment history are kept tidy and exportable.

05

How we build, test and hand over

Every development project runs through version control and a staging site that mirrors live. Payment flows are tested in sandbox mode first, using the test environments that Safaricom, Paystack and Flutterwave provide, before any real shilling moves. We write documentation as we go, record short walkthrough videos for your team, and hand over admin access, code and credentials in an orderly way at the end of the project.

Platforms we have built.

Our development work is clearest in these builds: a recruitment and HR system, a multi-currency online school and a learning environment, each delivered by our Nigeria team.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Should we use Daraja directly or a payment gateway?

Daraja suits organisations that already hold a Safaricom shortcode and want funds to land there directly. A gateway such as Paystack, Flutterwave or Pesapal suits those who also want cards, simpler reconciliation and less code to maintain. We set out the trade-offs for your case in the scope before building either.

Who owns the code you write?

You do. Custom themes and plugins are delivered into your repository and hosting account, documented, and free of licence locks from us. Your team or another developer can maintain them later, and we are glad to hand over cleanly if you bring the work in house.

Can you take over a site another Kenyan developer started?

Usually, yes. We begin with a paid code and security review so we know what we are inheriting, then scope the remaining work. If the code is not safe to build on, we will tell you and explain the options.

How do you handle support across time zones?

Kenya is on UTC+3 and our team is on UTC+1, two hours behind. Most of your working day overlaps ours. Development tasks run on a shared board, and urgent issues on managed sites follow the response routes set out in your maintenance agreement.

Do you invoice in shillings?

Our prices are set in US dollars, with Development starting from $5,000 per project. The written scope gives the full price for your project. If your procurement team needs a KES reference figure on the quote, raise it during scoping.
