Website migration for Canadian organisations, planned page by page

We move Canadian websites to WordPress, to hosting in Canada or to a new domain, with an inventory of everything and a redirect for every page that matters. Both language versions come across intact.

Overview

Website Migration for organisations in Canada.

Canadian organisations migrate for different reasons: leaving a site builder that has become limiting, consolidating separate English and French sites, bringing data onto Canadian servers, or moving from a .com to a .ca. Each move carries the same risks of missing content, broken forms and lost search traffic.

We treat a migration as a project with an inventory, a mapping, a test plan and a cutover, and we keep a rollback route ready until the new site is confirmed stable.

In detail

Website Migration in Canada, in detail.

01

From other platforms to WordPress

We migrate from hosted site builders, older content management systems, custom sites and other ecommerce platforms. Pages, posts, media, users and, for stores, products, customers and orders are exported where the source platform allows, then mapped into WordPress. If you run separate English and French sites today, we can bring them into one bilingual WordPress installation with linked translations. Content that does not fit is tidied up rather than forced in.

02

Moving data onto Canadian servers

Some organisations migrate specifically to bring data home. Through Cloudways we can host in Canadian data centres, including Toronto and Montreal. For Quebec organisations, moving personal information out of the province requires a privacy impact assessment first, so the destination is agreed with you and your legal adviser before anything moves. Temporary copies are deleted once the migration is verified.

03

Domain changes and .ca eligibility

Moving from a .com to a .ca, or between domains after a rebrand, needs careful redirects and a change of address in search tools. A .ca domain must be held by a registrant meeting CIRA's Canadian Presence Requirements, so we register it in your organisation's name. We keep the old domain redirecting so links and bookmarks continue to work. Old links in email signatures can be updated too.

04

Redirects, forms and email

We crawl the old site, build a full redirect map for both language versions, and test it after launch. Forms are rebuilt and tested so submissions keep arriving, with marketing consent recorded in a way that stands up under CASL. DNS and email records are moved with lowered time-to-live settings, and the cutover happens in your quiet hours, which fall during our working morning.

05

Cost and how we start

Migrations start from $1,000 per migration in US dollars, scoped in writing after we inventory your current site. Stores with order history, multiple sites or large media libraries are scoped individually. If a migration is part of a redesign, it is planned within that project. We add a Canadian dollar estimate for your budget if that helps. The inventory itself is a useful record of your site.

Verbatim and WL Construction were existing sites our team rebuilt with their content carried over, and BFI School shows how we move payments and learner data safely.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you merge our separate English and French sites?

Yes. We bring both into one bilingual WordPress installation, link each page to its translation and redirect the old URLs from both sites. Visitors and search engines then find the right language version from a single site. French and English slugs are both preserved or redirected.

Can you move our site to Canadian hosting?

Yes. Through Cloudways we can host in Canadian data centres. Where your policies or Quebec's rules on data leaving the province apply, we agree the destination with you and your legal adviser first. Copies held during the transfer are deleted once the migration is verified, and we confirm that in writing.

Will we lose rankings during the migration?

A planned migration should protect them. We map every URL, set permanent redirects, carry over metadata and monitor search data after cutover. Some short-term movement is normal, but lasting losses are avoidable. We use the change of address tool in search consoles when the domain changes.

How do you avoid downtime?

We build and test the new site in parallel, lower DNS settings in advance and switch during your quietest hours, which fall in our working morning. A rollback route stays ready until the new site is stable. Email records move with care so mail keeps flowing.

What does a website migration cost?

Migrations start from $1,000 in US dollars. The final price depends on the platform, the amount of content and data, languages and integrations, and is confirmed in a written scope. Migrations within a redesign are priced inside that project, and a Canadian dollar reference figure is available on request.
