Website design for Canadian organisations, built on WordPress

We design WordPress websites that read clearly, load quickly and work for every visitor, including those using screen readers or browsing in French. Design decisions are made with Canadian rules on accessibility, language and consent in view.

Overview

Website Design for organisations in Canada.

Good design for a Canadian audience starts with who is visiting. A Montreal customer may arrive expecting French; an Ontario public body needs accessible templates; a Prairie business may sell mostly on mobile. We map those audiences before we draw anything, then design pages around the tasks they came to complete.

Our designers and developers work together from the first wireframe, so what you approve is what gets built. The result is a custom WordPress site your team can edit with confidence, not a fragile mock-up that falls apart once real content arrives.

In detail

Website Design in Canada, in detail.

01

Designing for two languages

French text often runs longer than English, and that breaks layouts designed only for English. We test headings, buttons, navigation and cards with realistic French lengths, design a clear language switcher, and plan page structures that mirror each other so both versions carry the same information, as Quebec's language rules expect. You or your translator supply or approve the French content; we make sure the design holds it gracefully.

02

Accessible by design, not by audit

Colour contrast, focus states, heading order, form labels, error messages and motion settings are design decisions, so we make them at the design stage. We work to WCAG 2.1 AA as standard, which includes the WCAG 2.0 AA criteria Ontario's AODA rules require of larger organisations. Designing this way costs less than retrofitting after an accessibility complaint or a procurement review flags problems.

03

Forms and consent that respect Canadian law

Contact forms, quote requests and newsletter sign-ups collect personal information, so PIPEDA's expectation of meaningful consent applies. We design forms that ask only for what you need, explain why, and keep marketing consent as a separate, unticked choice so your list stands up under CASL. For Quebec organisations, the design includes a visible route to your privacy officer's contact details and a cookie banner that leaves tracking off until people opt in.

04

A design system your team can keep using

We deliver a set of reusable blocks and patterns in the WordPress editor: hero areas, service cards, case studies, team profiles, calls to action and more. Editors build new pages from approved parts, so the site stays consistent long after launch. Each pattern carries its accessibility decisions with it, which keeps standards from drifting as your content grows. Patterns are documented with short usage notes.

05

How the design process runs

We start with a discovery session, then agree a sitemap and content plan, then move to wireframes and visual designs for the key templates. You review at each stage, in writing or on a call in your morning, which is our afternoon. Strategy & Design projects start from $1,500, priced in US dollars and scoped in writing, with a Canadian dollar reference figure available on request.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you design a site that works in English and French?

Yes. We design layouts that hold longer French text, a clear language switcher and mirrored page structures. We work with you in English, and the French content comes from you or your translator, or is approved by you. We then check every template in both languages before launch.

Do your designs meet accessibility rules in Ontario?

We design to WCAG 2.1 AA, which includes the WCAG 2.0 AA criteria the AODA requires of organisations with 50 or more employees in Ontario. We document our checks. Ongoing compliance also depends on content you add later, so we show your editors how to keep pages accessible.

How long does website design take?

It depends on the number of templates and how quickly content and feedback arrive. A focused site moves faster than one with many page types and two languages. We set milestones in the written scope so you can see the timeline before work starts, and we keep to it by agreeing review dates in advance.

Will we be able to edit the site ourselves?

Yes. We build with reusable blocks and patterns in the WordPress editor and train your team to use them. Editors can create pages, update content and add news without touching code, while the design and accessibility choices stay intact. Short video guides are included.

What does website design cost?

Strategy & Design starts from $1,500 per project in US dollars. A site with custom functionality also needs Development, which starts from $5,000. The written scope shows exactly what is included, and we can give a Canadian dollar reference figure on request.
