Web applications and portals for Canadian organisations

We build portals, workflows and dashboards on WordPress for organisations that have outgrown spreadsheets and email chains. Every application is built around your process, with access control and privacy designed in.

Overview

Web Application Development for organisations in Canada.

Plenty of Canadian organisations run important processes on shared spreadsheets, inbox folders and paper forms: applications, approvals, bookings, member records, field reports. It works until volume grows or a key person leaves.

A web application gives that process a proper home. Building it on WordPress means you get a mature foundation for users, content and security, with custom code only where your process needs it.

In detail

Web Application Development in Canada, in detail.

01

Portals for clients, members and staff

We build secure portals where people log in to submit applications, upload documents, track status, download reports or manage accounts. Each user role sees only what it should. For example, the recruitment portal we built for ASEP Logistics lets candidates apply while HR staff review, shortlist and manage records from a dashboard. Login can include two-factor authentication for staff accounts.

02

Workflows and approvals

Many applications are really workflows: something is submitted, reviewed, approved or returned, and people need notifying at each step. We map your process first, then build forms, statuses, notifications and audit trails around it. Where steps involve payments, such as application fees or deposits, we connect Stripe, PayPal or Moneris. Each change of status is timestamped, so you can see how long steps take and where work gets stuck.

03

Dashboards and reporting

Managers need to see what is happening without exporting data by hand. We build dashboards that summarise activity, filter by period or region, and export to spreadsheets when needed. Reports draw on live data, so everyone works from the same figures. Charts are kept simple and readable, and access to reports follows the same roles as the rest of the application, so sensitive figures stay with the people entitled to see them.

04

Privacy, security and Canadian rules

Applications often hold more personal information than websites. We collect only what each step needs, encrypt connections, restrict access by role and log who did what. PIPEDA expects breach records to be kept for 24 months, and Quebec's Law 25 adds an assessment before data leaves the province, so we agree hosting location with you, including Canadian data centres through Cloudways. Interfaces are built to WCAG 2.1 AA.

05

Cost and ownership

Web applications fall under Development, which starts from $5,000 per project in US dollars. Larger systems are usually built in phases, each scoped in writing with its own milestones, so you see value early. You own the code once paid, and we can host and maintain the application afterwards. Early phases are chosen for the quickest practical benefit. Hosting can follow too.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can WordPress really run a web application?

Yes, for a wide range of portals, workflows and dashboards. WordPress handles users, permissions and content well, and custom plugins add the specific logic. Where a project genuinely needs a different stack, we will say so during scoping. The ASEP Logistics portal and the Technext ticketing system both run on WordPress with custom plugins.

Where will our application's data be stored?

Wherever we agree. Through Cloudways we can host in Canadian data centres such as Toronto and Montreal. Where law or policy requires local storage, the choice is made with you and your legal adviser. We also explain how backups and logs are stored, which helps your privacy officer with PIPEDA breach record-keeping.

Can it connect to our existing systems?

Usually, yes. We integrate with CRMs, accounting tools, payment gateways and other systems through their APIs, and document each connection. Where a system has no API, we discuss file-based imports or other options and explain the trade-offs before recommending one. Integrations are tested with real sample data before launch.

How do you scope a web application?

We start by mapping your current process and the people involved, then write a specification with phases and milestones. You approve the scope and price before development begins. The specification lists each user role, each screen and each notification, so there are no surprises later.

What does a web application cost?

Our Development work is priced from $5,000 in US dollars. Most applications are built in phases, each priced in a written scope, so you can start with the most valuable part first. Payments follow milestones, and a Canadian dollar reference figure is available on request.

Can you host and maintain the application after launch?

Yes. We host and maintain platforms we build, as we do for Technext and BFI Insights. That covers updates, backups, security monitoring and small improvements under a Managed Services plan from $2,000 per year in US dollars. Hosting can sit in a Canadian data centre, and the code stays yours, so you are free to move it later.
