Website design, Malawi

Website design that works for visitors in Malawi

We design WordPress sites around the people who will use them, most of whom in Malawi arrive on a phone. Every design is planned in discovery, reviewed with you on a staging link and handed over so your own team can keep it current.

Overview

Website Design for organisations in Malawi.

A good design for a Malawian audience starts with modest assumptions: a mid-range phone, a data bundle that has to last the week and a visitor who wants an answer in a few seconds. Heavy sliders, autoplay video and pages that bury the phone number work against all three. We design layouts that load quickly, read clearly in bright light and make the next step obvious.

Our team is based in Nigeria and works one hour behind Lilongwe, so design reviews happen in your working day. We have designed portals, online schools and event platforms for organisations elsewhere in Africa and in the USA, and we bring that discipline to company, NGO and school sites in Malawi.

In detail

Website Design in Malawi, in detail.

01

Discovery comes first

Before we draw anything, we ask who visits, what they need to decide and what you want them to do: call, apply, donate, book or buy. We review your current site and a few organisations you admire, then produce a sitemap and page plan. For many Malawian organisations that plan includes a WhatsApp or phone route alongside the form, because some visitors would rather talk than type. You approve the plan before visual design begins.

02

Prices shown in kwacha, honestly

If you publish prices, visitors expect them in kwacha. Because the currency has moved sharply, with devaluations of 25% in 2022 and 44% in 2023, we design price areas that your team can update in one place rather than across dozens of pages. Where a price changes often, we suggest wording such as 'from' with a date, so customers are not misled by a figure that has gone stale since it was published.

03

Payment steps people recognise

When a design includes paying online, we show the options Malawian customers use early in the journey, not just at the final step. Through PayChangu that can include Airtel Money, TNM Mpamba, cards and bank transfer. Seeing a familiar wallet name on a product or donation page removes doubt before the visitor commits. We also design the waiting state clearly, because approving a mobile money payment on a phone takes a moment.

04

Forms designed for the Data Protection Act

Malawi's Data Protection Act 2024 shapes how a form should look. We ask only for the details you genuinely need, place consent wording next to the submit button and link to a plain-language privacy notice. Admissions and application forms receive particular care because they often collect information about children or health. Designing this in from the start looks deliberate and saves rework later.

05

Accessible and easy to edit

We check colour contrast, text size and keyboard navigation as part of design, not as an afterthought. Pages are built from reusable WordPress blocks, so your communications officer can add a news story, update a team member or publish a vacancy without calling a developer. We provide a short guide and a recorded walkthrough so new staff can learn the site quickly.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does website design cost in Malawi with you?

Our Strategy and Design projects start from $1,500. The final price depends on how many page templates you need, whether we write or adapt content, and whether the design covers checkout, logins or portals. We confirm everything in a written scope with a fixed USD price, and can show an indicative kwacha figure for your internal approvals.

Can we review designs on our phones?

Yes, and we encourage it. We share designs and the staging site as links you can open on any phone or laptop, so your team sees exactly what visitors will see. Feedback is collected in one place and each round is agreed in writing, which keeps decisions clear when several colleagues are involved.

Will the site work in Chichewa as well as English?

English is Malawi's official language and most organisational sites are written in it, but WordPress can serve a second language well. If you want key pages in Chichewa, we plan the structure for it during discovery. You would provide or approve the translations, because we do not write in Chichewa ourselves.

We already have a logo but no brand guide. Is that a problem?

Not at all. We work from your logo and existing materials to agree colours, fonts and image style during discovery, then apply them consistently across the site. If a fuller brand refresh is needed, we will tell you before design starts, so it can be scoped and priced separately.

How long does design take?

It depends on the number of templates and how quickly feedback comes back. A small organisational site moves faster than a portal with several user types. We give you a timeline in the scope, and because we share a working day with you, review rounds rarely wait overnight.
