Web development, Malawi

WordPress development for Malawian organisations

We build WordPress sites and systems that do real work: taking payments, managing applications, running courses and connecting to the tools you already use. The code is documented and owned by you.

Overview

Web Development for organisations in Malawi.

Development is where a website either becomes an asset or a liability. A site assembled from dozens of conflicting plugins may look fine on launch day and become impossible to update a year later. We write custom themes and plugins where they are needed, keep third-party plugins to a deliberate minimum and document what we build, so another developer could pick it up.

For Malawian organisations the development work often centres on payments and data. Stripe does not serve Malawian businesses, so payment logic is built around local providers. The Data Protection Act 2024 sets expectations for how personal information is stored and shared. We treat both as engineering requirements from the first day.

In detail

Web Development in Malawi, in detail.

01

Custom themes and plugins

We build themes on the WordPress block editor so your team edits pages visually while the design stays consistent. When a feature does not exist in a trustworthy plugin, we write it: a fee calculator for a college, a project map for an NGO, a dealer locator for a distributor. Custom code is version controlled, commented and handed over with your site, so you are never locked into us for future changes.

02

Payment integration built for Malawi

PayChangu, licensed by the Reserve Bank of Malawi in 2024, gives a single API for Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba direct charges, cards and instant bank transfer, and provides WooCommerce and GiveWP plugins. We test the full cycle: the customer's approval on their phone, the confirmation back to your site, the order or receipt that follows and what happens when a payment fails or times out. That last case is where many sites quietly lose sales.

03

Integrations with your other systems

A website rarely works alone. We connect WordPress to CRMs, email platforms, accounting tools, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, and to custom systems through their APIs. For one client our team built automated attendee emails driven by registration data. Typical Malawian requests include sending enquiries straight into a sales pipeline, syncing donors to a mailing list and passing paid orders to an accounting package.

04

Data handling under the 2024 Act

When a site stores personal information, we decide with you where it lives, who can see it and how long it is kept. The Data Protection Act 2024 restricts transfers of personal data out of Malawi to cases that meet set conditions, which matters when a form sends data to an overseas service. We document each data flow, restrict admin access by role and log changes, which gives your data protection lead a clear record to work from.

05

Testing before anything goes live

Everything is built on a staging copy first. We test on real phones as well as desktop browsers, on slower connections, and with the payment provider's test mode where available. You review the staging site, sign off the features against the written scope, and only then do we schedule a launch, usually early in the week and during shared working hours.

Built by our team for clients in Nigeria and the USA, these projects show custom development at depth: a recruitment portal with HR dashboard, a multi-currency online school and a ticketing system.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does web development cost?

Our development projects start from $5,000 per project. The price depends on features, integrations and the number of user types. We scope it in writing with a fixed USD price, listing what is included and what is not, so there are no surprises when the invoice arrives.

Why not just use a page builder and plugins?

For a simple site, plugins are fine and we use reputable ones. Problems start when a site depends on many overlapping plugins for core features, because updates begin to break each other. We use custom code where it reduces that risk and makes the site faster and easier to maintain.

Can you connect our site to a Malawian bank?

We integrate through payment providers rather than banks directly. PayChangu offers instant bank transfer through partner banks as well as mobile money and cards. If your bank offers its own documented online payment API, we can review it during scoping and tell you honestly whether it is practical.

Who owns the code?

You do. On final payment, the theme, custom plugins and documentation are yours. We keep the code in a repository you can access, and if you later move to another developer, they inherit a documented project rather than a puzzle.

Do you work during Malawian business hours?

Yes. Malawi is one hour ahead of Lagos, so our working days overlap almost entirely. Meetings, testing sessions and launches are scheduled within shared hours, and we agree a response time for urgent issues in the scope. Progress is shared on a staging site you can open at any time.
