Hosting in Zambia

Managed WordPress hosting for Zambian websites

We host and manage WordPress sites through our partners Cloudways and Hostinger, and look after the server, backups and security for you. For Zambian sites we also weigh speed for local visitors and where personal data may be stored.

Overview

Web Hosting for organisations in Zambia.

Searching for domain hosting in Zambia brings up a mix of local providers, international hosts and resellers. The right choice depends on what your site does. A simple information site has different needs from a store holding customer accounts or a school portal with student records.

Our hosting is part of our managed services, which start from $2,000 a year and include maintenance as well as the server. We are honest about the trade-offs, including a legal question many Zambian organisations have not yet considered.

In detail

Web Hosting in Zambia, in detail.

01

What managed hosting means with us

We set up and run your WordPress site on infrastructure from Cloudways or Hostinger. You do not manage the server: we handle configuration, caching, SSL certificates, PHP versions, daily backups stored separately and security monitoring. If traffic grows, we scale the plan. You keep full ownership of your site files and database and can move elsewhere at any point, with our help if you want it.

02

Data storage and Section 70

Zambia's Data Protection Act No. 3 of 2021 includes a section that sets a default of storing and processing personal data on servers or data centres in Zambia, with exceptions such as consent and approved transfers. Our partners' data centres are not in Zambia. For a site that only publishes information, that is rarely a concern. For one that stores customer, student or staff records, we explain the position, document where data would live, and recommend you confirm the right option with a legal adviser before launch. Where a Zambian host is the safer route, we will say so.

03

Speed for visitors in Zambia

Physical distance adds delay, so we choose the nearest suitable data centre our partners offer, add caching, and serve images and scripts efficiently. Many visitors are on mobile data, so page weight matters as much as server location. We measure load times from the region rather than assuming, and tune the site until key pages feel quick on a phone.

04

Domains, .co.zm and email

Most Zambian businesses using the national domain register under .co.zm, and schools or charities often use .org.zm. Registrants need a presence in Zambia, so we keep the domain in your organisation's name. We connect it to hosting, set the DNS records for business email through a provider you choose, and configure authentication so your messages are less likely to land in spam.

05

Moving your site to us

If your site is already hosted elsewhere, we migrate it with minimal disruption. Migrations start from $1,000. We copy files and database, test on a temporary address, switch DNS at a quiet time in Central Africa Time, and keep the old server running until everything is confirmed. Email is moved with the same care, because a lost mailbox is often a bigger problem than a slow website.

Our Technext ticketing platform had to stay up while thousands of tickets were scanned at the door, which is the clearest example of the hosting reliability our team plans for.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is your hosting located in Zambia?

No. We host through Cloudways and Hostinger, whose data centres are outside Zambia. That suits many sites, but because the Data Protection Act sets a local storage default for personal data, we discuss it openly for sites that hold customer or student records and suggest you confirm the position with your adviser.

How much does hosting cost?

Hosting is part of our managed services, starting from $2,000 a year, which also covers maintenance, security and support. The plan size depends on traffic, storage and whether the site processes payments. Domain registration and email are budgeted separately, and we tell you about each cost upfront.

Can you register a .co.zm domain for us?

We help you register it through an accredited registrar in your organisation's name, since .zm names require a presence in Zambia. We then connect it to hosting and email. If you already own a domain, we simply update the DNS records.

Do you provide email hosting?

We set up business email with a provider you choose, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, and configure the DNS records so it works reliably with your domain. Your mailboxes are not tied to your website server, which keeps email safe if the site ever moves.

What happens if the site goes down?

We monitor uptime continuously. If the site goes down, we investigate, restore service and tell you what happened. Our working hours overlap closely with Zambia's because Lusaka is one hour ahead of Lagos, so you are rarely waiting overnight for a response.
