Web development in Zambia

WordPress development for Zambian teams that have outgrown a brochure site

When a website needs to do real work, such as taking applications, issuing certificates or connecting to payments, we build it on WordPress with custom code. Every build is scoped in writing and documented for your team.

Overview

Web Development for organisations in Zambia.

Many organisations in Zambia start with a simple site and then need more: a portal where applicants upload documents, a member area, a booking system or a link to their accounts software. Those are development projects, and they need planning around payments, data protection and the people who will run them day to day.

We are WordPress developers based in Nigeria, part of Digitalzooks, and we work with Zambian clients remotely across a one-hour time difference. We build custom themes and plugins, connect third-party systems and write the documentation your team needs once we hand over.

In detail

Web Development in Zambia, in detail.

01

Custom systems, not stacks of plugins

Off-the-shelf plugins solve common problems, but a site assembled from dozens of them becomes slow and fragile. Where your process is specific, such as a multi-stage application, approvals by different staff or a reporting dashboard, we write a focused custom plugin instead. It does what you need, stays maintainable and avoids paying for licences you barely use. We also build on our own Bizy suite of operations plugins when they fit the job.

02

Mobile money and card integrations

Development work in Zambia often means connecting payments. Flutterwave's mobile money service collects kwacha from MTN, Airtel and Zamtel wallets, with the customer approving the charge on their phone and a webhook telling the site the result. We build that confirmation step carefully, because a missed callback is how orders end up paid but not recorded. For card payments we can integrate a gateway such as DPO Pay, which works with Zambian acquiring banks.

03

Personal data handled by design

Under the Data Protection Act 2021, the organisation controlling personal data must register with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, and the Act expects that data to be stored in Zambia unless an exception applies. In development terms that means we limit what custom forms collect, encrypt sensitive uploads, restrict admin roles, log access and keep a clear record of where every database and backup lives. That record helps your legal adviser decide whether your hosting arrangement needs a Zambian location or a consent route.

04

Learning, membership and recruitment platforms

Schools, training providers and associations across the region want platforms where people sign up, learn and receive certificates. We built an online school for BFI School in the USA with multi-currency payments, certificates and affiliates, and a virtual learning environment for Alvina Schools in Nigeria. These were not Zambian projects, but the architecture translates directly to a Zambian college or professional body charging fees in kwacha.

05

Working across one hour of difference

Development needs fast answers to small questions. Because Lusaka sits on Central Africa Time, one hour ahead of Lagos, our developers and your team share almost the whole working day. We hold short check-ins, demo progress on a staging site you can click through, and agree each release before it goes live. You see the work as it grows, not only at the end.

We show platforms our team built where payments, certificates and staff workflows had to work together, the same mix Zambian training providers and employers ask about.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What does custom WordPress development cost?

Development projects start from $5,000. The scope depends on how many user types, integrations and custom workflows the system needs. We agree it in writing before starting, with a price in USD and, if useful for your board or finance team, a kwacha equivalent at the rate on the proposal date.

Can you connect our site to systems we already use?

Usually, yes. We have connected WordPress to payment providers, CRMs, email platforms and internal tools through their APIs. In discovery we check what each system allows, because some only offer limited access. If an integration is not practical, we say so before the scope is signed.

Where will our data be stored?

That is a decision we make with you. Section 70 of Zambia's Data Protection Act sets a default that personal data is stored in Zambia, with exceptions. We document exactly where the database, files and backups sit for each option, so your legal adviser can confirm the right approach before launch.

How do we see progress during the build?

You get access to a staging site and a project board. We demo new features on short calls during the shared working day, collect feedback in writing and only release changes to the live site once you have approved them.

Who maintains the code after launch?

You own the code and receive documentation, so any competent WordPress developer can work on it. Many clients keep us on through a managed services plan from $2,000 a year, which covers updates, security, monitoring and small improvements. Either way, nothing about the build locks you in to working with us.

Do you work with Zambian freelancers or in-house teams?

Yes. If you already have a developer or IT officer, we can split work clearly, share the repository and agree coding standards so both sides can contribute safely. Many organisations prefer this, because it keeps knowledge of the system inside the team that will live with it after our work is finished.
