E-learning platforms

E-learning platforms for Zambian training providers and schools

We build e-learning portals on WordPress where learners enrol, study, sit quizzes and earn certificates. Fees can be paid by mobile money in kwacha, and the platform belongs to you.

Overview

E-learning Platforms for organisations in Zambia.

An e-learning platform, often called a learning management system or LMS, is a website where people take structured courses online: lessons, assessments, progress tracking and certificates in one place. Colleges, professional bodies, NGOs and employers in Zambia use them to reach learners beyond a single campus.

We build these platforms on WordPress with a learning plugin and custom code. Our team built the BFI School platform, with certificates, affiliates and payments in four currencies, and the Alvina Schools virtual learning environment.

In detail

E-learning Platforms in Zambia, in detail.

01

Courses, assessments and certificates

We set up courses as modules and lessons, with quizzes, assignments and pass marks you control. Learners see their progress and receive a certificate automatically when they complete the requirements, with a reference number that employers or regulators can check. Administrators can enrol whole cohorts at once, which suits organisations training staff or programme participants. Course authors work in the familiar WordPress editor, so adding a new course does not need a developer.

02

Paying for courses by mobile money

Many Zambian learners would rather pay from a mobile wallet than with a card. Through Flutterwave, the platform can collect kwacha from MTN, Airtel and Zamtel, with the learner approving the payment on their phone and access opening once confirmation arrives. Card payments can run through a gateway such as DPO Pay. Sponsored learners can be enrolled manually against an invoice. If you sell courses as a non-resident supplier, the VAT rules on electronic services also need checking with your accountant.

03

Learner data under the Data Protection Act

An LMS gathers names, phone numbers, results and sometimes national registration numbers. Under the Data Protection Act 2021, your organisation must register with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, and section 70 sets a default of storing personal data in Zambia. We keep registration fields minimal, restrict who can view results, document storage locations and, for learners under 18, add a step for consent from a parent or guardian.

04

Built for phones and data bundles

Learners often study on a phone using data they buy themselves. We stream video at quality that adapts to the connection, offer short lessons and downloadable notes, and save progress automatically so a dropped signal does not mean starting again. Quizzes work well on small screens. We test the platform on throttled connections before launch, because a course that costs too much data to finish will not be finished.

05

Support through every intake

A learning platform is busiest at the start of each intake, when enrolments, payments and password resets arrive together. Our Managed Services, from $2,000 a year, cover hosting through Cloudways or Hostinger, updates to the LMS and payment plugins, backups and support during the shared working day, since Lusaka is one hour ahead of Lagos. New courses and features can be added under a growth retainer.

BFI School and Alvina Schools are our clearest e-learning examples: one sells courses with certificates and affiliates, the other supports daily lessons for pupils and staff.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is an e-learning platform?

It is a website where learners register, follow structured courses, complete quizzes or assignments and receive certificates, while administrators track progress. It can be public and paid, private for staff, or a mix. Ours are built on WordPress, so you own the platform and its data.

Can learners pay with MTN MoMo or Airtel Money?

Yes. Through Flutterwave the platform can accept MTN, Airtel and Zamtel mobile money in kwacha, and course access opens automatically once the payment is confirmed. Your organisation holds the merchant account in its own name; we build the integration and test every network before learners arrive.

Can the platform work for learners with poor connectivity?

We design for it. Lessons are short, video adapts to the connection, notes can be downloaded and progress saves automatically. We test on slow connections before launch. A fully offline mode is a larger project, which we can discuss during discovery.

Where will learner data be stored?

We host through Cloudways or Hostinger, whose data centres are outside Zambia. Because the Data Protection Act sets a default of local storage, we document where everything sits and recommend you confirm the right approach with your adviser. If a Zambian host is required, we plan for that.

What does an e-learning platform cost?

A learning platform is development work, starting from $5,000 per project. The price depends on payments, user roles, reporting and integrations with other systems. We quote in USD after discovery and can show a kwacha equivalent for your board, funders or finance team.
