School websites in Botswana

School website design for Botswana schools

A school website has to serve prospective parents, current families, staff and pupils at once. We design sites that make admissions clear, keep parents informed and treat pupil information with the care the law expects.

Overview

School Websites for organisations in Botswana.

Private and independent schools in Botswana compete for families who usually look online first. A school website that is slow, out of date or confusing about fees sends them elsewhere before they ever visit the campus.

School sites start from $1,500 for design and rise into development, from $5,000, when they include portals, online applications or payments. We agree which applies in a written scope.

In detail

School Websites in Botswana, in detail.

01

Admissions that answer parents' questions

Parents want to know about entry requirements, age ranges, fees, transport and how to apply. We design an admissions section that answers those questions in order, with an online enquiry or application form that collects only what the school needs at that stage. Admissions staff receive submissions in a structured way rather than a jumble of emails. A clear route to book a visit sits on every admissions page.

02

News, calendars and parent information

Term dates, events and notices change constantly, so staff must be able to update them easily. We set up a news section, an events calendar and a parents' area with downloadable documents. Editors use simple WordPress screens, and we train them before launch. Notices can be scheduled ahead, such as term reminders, so they publish on time even during busy weeks. Older posts are archived by term or year, keeping the homepage current without deleting history.

03

Fee payments for Botswana families

If the school wants fees paid online, the provider matters. DPO Pay by Network handles card payments for Botswana merchants. Mascom lists school fees among the uses of MyZakaPay, which works over USSD, so a fees page can explain how to pay by phone alongside a card option. Orange Money's web payment API is available once the school is a registered Orange Money merchant.

04

Safeguarding pupil data

School sites handle information about children, which deserves extra care. The Data Protection Act No. 18 of 2024 adds specific protections for children's data and requires breaches to be reported to the Information and Data Protection Commission without delay. We keep pupil records out of public pages, restrict logins by role, avoid naming pupils in photo captions unless the school has consent, and document where any data is stored.

05

Designed for phones on a budget

Many parents check school news on a phone, often on prepaid data. We keep pages light, compress photos from events and make key information readable without downloading large files. Term calendars are published as web pages rather than only as large PDFs, so parents can check a date in seconds. Important notices also appear at the top of the homepage on mobile. Contact numbers can be tapped to call directly, and the school's location opens in a map app, which matters to parents arriving for the first time.

Our work

Platforms we have built.

Our team built a virtual learning environment for Alvina Schools and the BFI School online platform, so we understand how school content, parents and pupil data fit together.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can parents pay school fees on the website?

Yes, through a provider the school has an account with. DPO Pay covers cards for Botswana merchants, and Orange Money offers web payments to registered merchants. We integrate the option you choose and make sure the bursar can match payments to pupils.

Can you add a learning platform later?

Yes. WordPress can run courses, assignments and quizzes. If the school may want this later, we plan the site structure so a learning area can be added without starting again. Our team has built a virtual learning environment for a school, so we know how the two parts connect.

How do you handle photos of pupils?

We advise the school to have a clear consent process and build the site so photos can be published without captions that identify children. The school decides its own policy; we make the site support it. Under the 2024 Act, consent for a child's data generally involves a parent or guardian.

Can staff update the site themselves?

That is the aim. We train the people who will edit news, events and documents, and leave a written guide. The layout is protected so updates do not break the design. If someone new takes over, the guide helps them get started quickly.

Do you work with government schools?

We work with any school that can contract with us under a written scope. Public institutions often have their own procurement and hosting rules, which we follow once you share them. We can also advise on what to ask an existing supplier before switching.
