E-learning in Botswana

E-learning platforms for Botswana educators and trainers

We build learning platforms on WordPress where learners enrol, study, take quizzes and earn certificates, and where you can take payment for courses. You own the platform and its data rather than renting space on someone else's.

Overview

E-learning Platforms for organisations in Botswana.

Training providers, professional bodies and schools in Botswana increasingly need to deliver courses online. Hosted course platforms are quick to start but charge per learner and limit what you can change. A WordPress learning platform takes longer to set up but gives you full control.

Learning platforms sit within our development work, starting from $5,000 per project. The written scope sets out courses, user types, payments and reporting before we begin.

In detail

E-learning Platforms in Botswana, in detail.

01

Courses, lessons and progress

We structure courses into modules and lessons with video, documents and text. Learners see their progress, pick up where they left off and get reminders. Instructors can add content through familiar WordPress screens without technical help. If you run cohorts, we set up enrolment windows and group management. Drip scheduling can release lessons weekly, which suits programmes that follow a fixed timetable.

02

Quizzes and certificates

Assessments can range from short knowledge checks to graded exams with pass marks. Certificates are generated automatically when a learner completes the requirements, carrying your branding and a verification reference. We built certificate issuing for the BFI School platform, so we know the details that matter. Question banks let you randomise questions, making it harder to share answers between learners.

03

Taking course fees in pula

For paid courses, we connect a payment provider your organisation can use. DPO Pay by Network supports card payments in Botswana, and Orange Money's web payment API serves registered Orange Money merchants. Enrolment happens only once payment is confirmed. If you sell courses to learners in other countries, we can display other currencies where your provider supports them. Discount codes and group enrolments can be added for employers paying for staff.

04

Protecting learner records

A learning platform stores names, contact details, grades and sometimes identity documents. The Data Protection Act No. 18 of 2024 requires a breach to be reported to the Information and Data Protection Commission without delay and restricts sending personal data abroad without an exception. We limit what is collected, restrict access by role, and record where learner data is held so you can check the cross-border position with your adviser.

05

Built for learners on mobile data

Many learners will study on phones. We keep lesson pages light, allow video to be streamed at lower quality, and offer downloadable notes where useful, so a course does not consume a month's data in a week. Quizzes save progress as learners go, so a dropped connection does not lose an attempt. Lessons are also readable in portrait on small screens, without sideways scrolling or tiny text.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why not use a hosted course platform?

Hosted platforms suit some organisations, especially for a quick start. A WordPress platform costs more to build but avoids per-learner fees, gives you full control of design and data, and can grow with features you choose. We help you compare both honestly.

Can learners pay with mobile money?

Where your organisation is a registered Orange Money merchant, we can integrate Orange Money's web payment service. MyZakaPay currently works over USSD, so it suits a manual pay-by-phone option rather than an automatic enrolment. Your team would then confirm payment before granting access.

Can we issue certificates automatically?

Yes. Certificates are generated when a learner meets the conditions you set, such as completing all lessons and passing a final quiz. Each can carry a reference that others can check. Learners can download them again from their dashboard at any time.

Can you move our existing courses across?

Usually, yes. We review the export options of your current platform and plan the move of courses, learners and progress. The approach depends on what the old platform allows. We test the move on a copy first and confirm learner records match before switching.

Who owns the learner data?

Your organisation does. It sits in your WordPress database, and we document where it is hosted so you can meet your obligations under the 2024 Act. If you leave us, the database and content go with you, and we help with the handover so nothing is lost.
