Overview

Web Hosting for organisations in South Africa.

There is no shortage of cheap web hosting in South Africa. The trouble is that a hosting account on its own does nothing to keep WordPress fast, patched or backed up, and many businesses only discover this after a slow season or a security scare.

Our hosting is part of Managed Services. We choose and configure the server, run the site on it, and take responsibility for keeping it healthy, so you deal with one team rather than a host, a developer and a domain reseller.

In detail

Web Hosting in South Africa, in detail.

01

Speed for South African visitors

Distance adds delay, so the location of your server matters when most visitors are in Gauteng, the Western Cape or KwaZulu-Natal. During setup we check which server regions the chosen plan offers and pick the one that gives your audience the lowest practical latency, then add caching and a content delivery network for images and scripts. We measure load times from South Africa after launch rather than assuming.

02

Where your data sits under POPIA

If your site stores personal information such as customer accounts, orders or job applications, its location matters. POPIA section 72 allows personal information to leave South Africa only under conditions such as consent, a contract with the person, or the recipient being bound by comparable protection. We tell you exactly where your server and backups are hosted, so your Information Officer can confirm the arrangement before you go live.

03

Your .co.za domain and business email

Most South African businesses use a .co.za address, which is registered through an accredited registrar and is open to owners outside the country. We register or transfer the domain in your organisation's name, manage DNS, and set up business email with the records that stop your messages landing in spam. If you already have a domain with a local reseller, we move it without interrupting email.

04

Hosting built for WooCommerce stores

Online stores need more from a server than brochure sites: uncached cart and checkout pages, reliable callbacks from gateways such as Payfast, Ozow or Peach Payments, and enough resources for sale days. We size the server for your traffic, exclude cart and checkout from caching, and confirm that payment notifications from the gateway reach your store so paid orders are never left pending. Before a big promotion, we review capacity with you.

05

Backups, monitoring and recovery

Every hosted site gets daily off-site backups, uptime monitoring and security scanning. We test restores, not just backups, because a backup that has never been restored is a hope rather than a plan. If a problem occurs, our team in Lagos, one hour behind Johannesburg, picks it up during your working day. You receive a short written note of what happened and what we changed, which also helps your Information Officer if personal information was involved.

These hosted platforms show the loads we plan for: a ticketing site that handled more than 10,000 scanned tickets and a podcast platform serving media to listeners.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is our website hosted in South Africa?

It depends on the plan and the regions our hosting partners offer at the time. During setup we tell you exactly where your server and backups sit, and why that location was chosen. If you have a firm requirement to keep data in South Africa, raise it in discovery so we can plan around it.

Does POPIA stop us hosting outside South Africa?

Not automatically. Section 72 allows transfers abroad under set conditions, such as the recipient being bound by comparable data protection, consent, or the transfer being needed to perform a contract with the person. Your Information Officer should confirm which condition applies, and we give them the hosting details they need.

Can you move our site from a South African host?

Yes. We copy the site to the new server, test it, then switch DNS at a quiet time so visitors and email are not disrupted. Migrations start from $1,000, or the move can be included when you join a Managed Services plan.

Who owns the .co.za domain?

You do. We register or transfer the domain in your organisation's name and simply manage it on your behalf, including renewals and DNS. If you ever leave us, the domain goes with you, and we hand over the registrar details and transfer code promptly.

How much is managed hosting?

Managed Services, including hosting, start from $2,000 per year. The price depends on traffic, whether you run a store and how much support you need. The written scope lists everything included, from backups and monitoring to domain management and updates.
