Web development, South Africa

Custom WordPress development for South African organisations

When an off-the-shelf theme cannot do the job, we write the code. Our developers build custom plugins, portals and integrations that handle South African data and payments properly.

Overview

Web Development for organisations in South Africa.

Plenty of South African web development companies will build you a website. Fewer will write a custom WordPress plugin, connect it to your accounting system, and keep it working through years of updates. That is the work we specialise in, and it is why organisations come to us when a project grows beyond a page builder.

We build on WordPress because it is open, widely supported and easy for your own team to manage once we hand over. Our code is documented, version-controlled and yours to keep.

In detail

Web Development in South Africa, in detail.

01

Portals, dashboards and workflows

Many of our builds are private areas rather than public pages: recruitment portals, HR dashboards, member areas and learning platforms. For a South African organisation these often hold ID numbers, CVs or learner records, which POPIA treats as personal information. We design roles and permissions so staff only see what they need, log access to sensitive records, and keep data out of places it does not belong, such as email notifications that forward full form contents.

02

Integrations with South African payment providers

We connect WordPress to the gateways your customers use. Payfast, Ozow and Peach Payments all offer WooCommerce plugins, and Paystack supports cards plus Instant EFT and Capitec Pay in South Africa. Where a project needs more than the standard plugin, such as recurring invoices, deposits or reconciliation with your accounting system, we build the extra logic around the official integration rather than replacing it, which keeps you on a supported path.

03

Handling data that may leave South Africa

Integrations often send data to services hosted abroad: CRMs, email platforms, analytics. POPIA section 72 only allows personal information to leave the country under set conditions, such as consent or the recipient being bound by comparable protection. During discovery we map where each piece of data goes, so you can check those conditions with your Information Officer before we connect anything.

04

Our development approach

We work from a written specification, build on a staging server and use version control for every change. You see progress at regular demos rather than at the end. Before launch we test with realistic data, check performance under load and review security settings. Development projects start from $5,000, and the scope document states exactly what is included so there are no surprises.

05

Code you can keep

We maintain our own plugins, including emailfooter and the Bizy suite of operations plugins, so we write code with long-term upkeep in mind. Custom work follows WordPress coding standards, is documented for the next developer and is handed over with admin guides for your staff. If you later bring development in-house, your team can pick it up without starting again.

Platforms we have built.

These builds show the kind of custom development South African organisations ask for: a recruitment portal with an HR dashboard, a registration system for a national boot camp, and an online school with multi-currency payments.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a custom plugin for our South African business?

Yes. Custom plugins are a core part of our work. We start by documenting what the plugin must do, who uses it and what data it touches, then build and test it on staging. You own the code, and we can maintain it afterwards under a Managed Services plan if you prefer.

Will you work with our in-house developers?

Happily. We can lead the build, review your team's code or take on a defined part of a larger project. We share a repository, agree coding standards early and overlap almost fully with South African working hours, since Johannesburg is only an hour ahead of Lagos.

Can you connect WordPress to our accounting or ERP system?

Usually, yes, as long as the other system offers an API or a reliable export. We confirm what the system supports during discovery, then build and test the connection on staging with sample data before it touches live records. If the system has no usable API, we explain the alternatives.

How do you handle POPIA in custom systems?

We collect only the fields you need, restrict access by role, encrypt connections, keep backups and avoid sending personal information by plain email. We also document where data flows, including any services hosted outside South Africa, so your Information Officer can confirm the arrangement meets POPIA.

What does custom development cost?

Development projects start from $5,000. The final price depends on the number of features, integrations and user roles involved. After discovery we send a written scope with a fixed price for that scope, and any later changes are agreed in writing first.

Do you only build on WordPress?

Yes. Specialising lets us go deep on WordPress, WooCommerce and the plugins South African sites rely on. If WordPress is the wrong tool for your project, we will say so during discovery rather than force it, and explain what we would use in its place and why.
